Oak Island Gallery

If you're looking for a little more rock'n'roll in your life, head down to Oak Island Gallery, which specialises in rock art. You're bound to find something cool and unique here - and not only that, you can also fill up on creative energy in an inspiring space. The gallery is run by siblings Jesper and Nella Hurtig.

Oak Island Gallery was born out of frustation. Jesper and Nelly Hurtig were frustrated that Stockholm lacked inspiring spaces dedicated to art, like the ones they'd visited in major cities such as London, New York, Berlin and Santa Barbara. They longed for a place where people of all different backgrounds could come together to enjoy music, art and conversations. So they took things into their own hands and started Oak Island - a rock'n'roll gallery with an inviting atmosphere. 

The aim here is to provide a creative oasis where you can meet up over art and music, appreciate and experience it, and thereby come into contact with your own creative side. The gallery achieves this by arranging exhibitions with established and upcoming artists, and by organising and renting out the gallery for creative events that revolve around art, such as openings, pop-ups, talks, performances, release parties and workshops. 

A couple of evenings a week they hold a “creative space” where anyone is welcome to bring along the creative project they're working on, from sitting sketching to design, writing and painting. You can borrow the material they have at the gallery, completely free. Another happening is the collective painting event that can be booked for groups. 

Whether it's events, exhibitions or just hanging out, the common denominator at Oak Island Gallery is that it should be unique and appealing. As they themselves put it, they're ”fuelled by rock'n'roll”.
