The castle is within easy reach of Stockholm and Uppsala and offers guided tours, a castle shop and café.
Skokloster castle, on the Sko peninsula of Lake Mälaren, is one of the world's best preserved baroque castles. Meet the count and countess who had the castle built in the mid 17th century, get to know the people who have lived and worked at the castle over the years, stroll in beautiful surroundings, and enjoy coffee and cake in the café, which is housed in beautiful 17th century vaults. Don't miss seeing one of the world's most famous artworks, Vertumnus by Giuseppe Arcimboldo, which hangs in the castle.
The castle was built during the time of the Swedish Empire and building took more than 30 years. Visiting the castle is like travelling back in time, thanks to the fact that a large part of the interior is preserved. You can admire artefacts from the everyday life, as well as high days and holidays, of the aristocracy, as well as collections of art, weapons, books and textiles through exhibitions, guided tours and digital content. During the summer months there are activities for children in Paradise cottage next to the castle, where children can grow vegetables, jump hobby horses, play and do crafts.
During high season, June to the end of August, the castle is open every day. From October to May the castle is open for pre-booked groups, events and holiday activities. They're also open every weekend in September and May. Get here by public transport, car or boat. The car journey takes around an hour from Stockholm or Uppsala, and during the summer months you can take the boat from those cities to the castle.
