Dansken Slaktis
Smörrebröd, snaps and hygge
In the Slakthusområdet area of southern Stockholm is a little piece of Denmark; a restaurant called Dansken. Danish home cooking in the form of open sandwiches - smörrebröd - is the order of the day here, washed down, of course with beer and snaps.
Over a hundred years of history sit in the walls of the industrial building in which the restaurant's housed. Dansken, spread over two floors of Hus 26 in the Slakthusområdet (Stockholm's former meatpacking district), is full of open sandwiches, beer and aquavit. Danish food is celebrated here among the bricks, round-arched windows and iron beams that have stood since 1912.
The menu consists of open sandwiches, or as they say: hygge on a slice of Danish rye bread. Inspiration comes from the restaurants and pubs of Copenhagen. Choose from a variety of open sandwiches, all made on a crisp rye bread base, topped with various generous toppings, such as roast beef with remoulade, classic "flæskesteg" with crispy pork rind, and pickled herring, shrimp, egg and potatoes. In the Danish way, cold beer and snaps, especially aquavit, are served alongside.
Simplicity and heartiness are the focus here. Stop by for a quick beer before a match or concert in the area, a romantic date for two or long dinners with friends and family. Hygge without fuss – that's the vibe here.
