Distillery, gin tastings and cellar-door sales in the heart of Vasastan
Sister restaurants Cliff Barnes and Sue Ellen have long been popular haunts in Vasastan and have served plenty of gin & tonics over the years. Since 2024, they also have a joint distillery, Cliff Barnes Bränneri, where they make gin in Sue Ellen's cellar on Tulegatan, arrange gin tastings in the restaurant and offer cellar-door sales.
Humour, hubris and luck are the keywords behind the venture Cliff Barnes Bränneri, which released its first London Dry Gin at Systembolaget in autumn 2024. Since then, their range of spirits has grown with several more products, all distilled "with the same lack of experience and excess enthusiasm" that the restaurants are built on, as well as carefully selected ingredients and equal parts self-confidence and luck.
If you're curious about the drinks, you can book a gin tasting at Sue Ellen in the middle of Vasastan, and get a tour of the distillery located in the basement. This holds large boilers, pumps, hoses and filters, as well as gin bottles with the distillery's own labels, which are inspired by a found dry cleaning receipt. According to them, the fumes from the distillery alone are enough to make you laugh.
