Where to find Stockholm's best Christmas markets

The charming Christmas market on Stortorget in the Old Town has its origins in the medieval markets of Stockholm and started as early as 1837. Soak up the Christmas spirit among around 40 market stalls selling sweets, crafts, sausages & game meat, handicrafts, mulled wine, candy floss, ceramics, and much more.

Skansen has held a classic Christmas market since the early 1900s, and this year the market celebrates 122 years. With numerous stalls and a classic festive atmosphere, Skansen's Christmas market is a must for traditionalists, with handcrafts, Christmas songs, dancing around the Christmas tree and much more. The park is open as usual and you can warm yourself by the open fire in one of the festively decorated houses, listen to stories about Christmas celebrations from the past and experience decorated trees, Christmas tables, Christmas baking and other Swedish Christmas traditions.

This year sees the premiere of the Mariatorget Christmas market, with festive decorations, trees, and sparkling lights framing the bustling market square. In the stalls, you can buy Christmas baubles and decorations for your home and garden, honey from Gräddö, lambskins from Öland, authentic cheddar cheese, Swedish charcuterie, delicacies from the Swedish seas, as well as marmalades, jams, sweets, and freshly baked goods. There is also a café serving waffles, hot chocolate, and coffee, and as if that wasn't enough, guest performances and little surprises await during the market days.

Bar Zeppelin's outdoor seating at Gondolen transforms into a Christmas market on 29 November and then every Saturday leading up to Christmas. Visitors can stroll among selected producers and enjoy the view over the city. Stalls include Frost Bageri with saffron buns, Akt Förlag with books, Ulriksdals Värdshus with flowers, and Gondolen with the Christmas drink Verte Chaud. On two of the Saturdays, Bar Zeppelin will host live music: on 29 November, musician and poet Mattias Alkberg will perform, and on 13 December, songwriter Carl HS will join, along with a Lucia procession visiting the market.

Stockholms Bränneri invites you to a cosy evening with local flavours, mulled wine mingling, and festive spirit. Chokladfabriken, Kersh, Krumel Cookies, Palla, Paulina's Bakery, Pärlans Confectionery, and Sandberg Drinks Lab will all be participating. The bar will be serving its best festive treats, and there will also be an opportunity to take a tour of the urban farm shop.

The design market Formkavalkaden returns to Brygghuset, this time as a large Christmas market. Designers will be selling unique works, including ceramics, leather, wooden sculptures, paintings, fashion design, and jewellery. Take a break in the café with a coffee or a glass of wine.

Support the city's Young Enterprise companies at their Christmas market in Kungsträdgården. You'll find some unique gifts, handcrafts and other treasures which you can buy straight from high school students involved in Young Enterprise.

At Timmermansgården's traditional Christmas market, you can buy handmade crafts and Christmas decorations from the bazaar club, visit a flea market, buy lottery tickets, and play the tombola. In the café, homemade treats are served to the sounds of live music.

The Swedish-Finnish school's annual Christmas market revolves around traditional Finnish Christmas dishes, crafts, decorations, baked goods, books, and more. During the market, visitors can enjoy drinks and snacks in the cafeteria, located in the school's beautiful dining hall and in the foyer of the auditorium. 

At the international Christmas market at the Maritime Museum, you can buy Christmas gifts in the form of crafts, art, and delicacies from all corners of the Earth. There will also be singing, music, and dancing. Previously, this has been a Baltic Christmas market, and many of the Baltic vendors are still participating and now exhibiting alongside people from Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.

Organic Christmas food, locally-produced delicacies, hand-dipped candles and masses of festive activities. You can buy your food and your presents direct from the producers at these farmers markets. The market returns to Katarina Bangata in Södermalm and Tessinparken in Östermalm every year.

Wasa Christmas market began in 2012 and has moved around Vasastan over the years, most recently settling in Odenplan. Around 35 exhibitors sell traditional handcrafts, homemade goodies, Christmas sweets and handmade candles. There are also a couple of tables selling secondhand festive items.

Over two days, the DN skyscraper in Kungsholmen will be transformed into a Christmas market focusing on second-hand and vintage products such as clothing, crafts, and retro items. Food and refreshments are available for purchase at the restaurant Typ.

The annual Christmas market at the Royal Stables includes crafts, artisan foods, children's activities and much more. While you're there, explore the beautiful buildings, the magnificent carriages that are used for ceremonial occasions and visit the stables themselves to see the king's horses.

Hornstull market usually takes place on spring, summer, and autumn weekends, when the Hornstull waterfront is filled with exhibitors and food trucks creating a festive atmosphere. This Christmas they've joined forces with Söders marknad to create a large Christmas market in Fatbursparken with good food, hot drinks, Christmas treats and crafts. 

Bleck's Christmas market is back after a year's break. On 6th December, they will be cosying up outside the restaurant with lights, bonfires, and blankets – inside, you can enjoy brunch and a range of hot and cold drinks. A suitably festive atmosphere and unique Christmas gifts are promised, as well as a dedicated flea market section.

On 6 December, Trädgården transforms into a winter wonderland as the popular Eken Marknad invites you to its first Christmas market. A sparkling day is promised, filled with vintage, music, food, drinks, DJs, and crafts. Entrance is 60 SEK, free for children under 15.

For the fourth year in a row, Christmas is being celebrated in eastern Kungsholmen, now under the name Christmas around Pipersgatan, where shops and other participants invite you to join in the festive fun. It's not a traditional market, but still a delightful day with a quiz walk, a visit from Santa, Christmas crafts and goodie bags. On the same day, there will be a Christmas market at Kungsholmen's friskola.

On the 6th of December, Münchenbryggeriet will transform into a Christmas festival featuring over 150 creators selling their handmade products. There will also be food, drink, music, and fun surprises. The first 100 guests will receive a goodie bag each.

The Other Side Market is hosting a Christmas market at Mötesplats Mariatorget on 6th December. They have gathered over 30 creators, designers, and artists showcasing their goods, and you can expect everything from cool art and fashion to home decor and various unique items that can only be found here. The café serves food and refreshments.

Lerig Studio invites you to a Christmas market featuring unique ceramics, small-scale craftsmanship and upcycling, as well as the opportunity to meet the potters and hear about their creative processes. The Christmas market will be held in the studio at Tavastgatan 16.

Over two days, the greenhouse and gardens at Rosendals Trädgård will be filled with students from fashion, design and visual communication at Beckmans College of Design selling items they have created. This is a great opportunity to find something nice and unique to give as a Christmas gift.

Schysst Jul is a way to help ensure a happy Christmas for people in need. Shop for jewellery, handmade textiles, good food, inspiring books, and much more from organisations and businesses that work for social and climate justice. The Christmas market takes place at the ABF building on Sveavägen.

On the weekend of 6–7 December, Makeriet Södermalm is hosting a pottery Christmas market in their newly opened workshop at Blekingegatan 42. Members will present sustainable and handmade items such as ceramics, knitted goods, wooden crafts, wall art, courses, workshops, candles, room scents, and shea for skin and hair. The shop will also be open.

On Sundays in December, Reimersholme Hotel is hosting a Christmas market with candle making, crafts, food, and live music. Hot mulled wine, sausages, fried dough, and soup will also be served.

The freelance collective Zoo People is on Blekingegatan 17 in Södermalm, where they'll be hosting a Christmas market on 13 December. You can browse ceramics from Lerjungarna, prints, books, vintage items, and much more, as well as enjoy homemade cakes.

Södermalm Christmas market premieres this year, a market that founder Jocke Stenhammar describes as different, fresher and more spacious than the classic Christmas markets. The area around Nytorget will be decorated with ornaments, hay bales and fires to create a festive atmosphere for the market, where you can buy crafts, enjoy delicious food and drink, watch the Lucia procession, record a Christmas song with Universal, and hopefully ski on snow that has been transported there specifically for this purpose.

The Christmas market on the inner-city island of Skeppsholmen may not be Stockholm's largest, but it's definitely one of the most charming. Surrounded by water in the heart of the city, you'll find a festive market with a nautical and crafts theme. Watch as blacksmiths forge iron or try it for yourself, warm yourself by the fire or grill a sausage, have a hot drink and something to eat and buy unique Christmas presents.

This is a Christmas weekend filled with craftsmanship, lights, and creativity! The Makers Christmas Market brings together local talents under one roof, featuring ceramics, crochet, woodworking, candle holders, and matcha. You can also take the opportunity to get crafty yourself: paint ceramics or create your own Christmas cards with washi tape, watercolours, and glitter, as well as take a break with sweets from Fika Lab.

Svensk Form is an association that works to promote Swedish design both in Sweden and around the world. For the fourth year in a row, they invite you to a Christmas market in their premises at Skeppsholmen where you can find bargains among the members' works, such as jewellery, woodwork, ceramics, lighting, posters and more.

Take in the Christmas atmosphere, enjoy festive treats and shop for homemade gifts and Christmas decorations at Steninge Slottsby. Take a walk in the beautiful wintery surroundings.

The Christmas market at Taxinge Slott is one of the largest in Sweden, with over 100 artisans selling their homemade products. Taste homemade delicacies, warm up by the open fire and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Zetas Trädgård is filled to the brim with exhibitors selling edible goods and crafts, along with wreaths, amaryllis, and hyacinths. The garden is warmed by lit fires and torches, all for an unforgettable Christmas atmosphere.

The quayside at Nacka Strand invites you to a charming Christmas market on the 22nd–23rd of November from 11am to 3pm. Over 30 vendors and Young Enterprise companies will be offering everything from crafts to treats, live music, and a festive atmosphere. Feel free to combine your visit with something tasty in the restaurant.

Once upon a time Wira Bruk was Sweden's main armoury, but it's now a museum where they organise a Christmas market on the first of advent. Browse the handcrafts and edible goodies sold at the twenty five market stalls, have something to eat in the restaurant and let the live music put you in a Christmassy mood.

At the market alongside Sandhamn Seglarhotell, you can stroll between various stalls and find Christmas gifts, beautiful decorations, and local delicacies, warm yourself by the fire or grab something hot to drink in the Orangeriet, and enjoy grilled food outdoors in the winter landscape of the archipelago. You can also book a traditional Christmas julbord.

The Mälarhöjden scout group invites you to a market at Mälarhöjden school, featuring a flea market, café, lotteries, and stalls with homemade products. Visitors can indulge in the crowd favourite scout kebab, as well as waffles, sausages, gingerbread, and much more.

On 29 November, there will be a Christmas market on the island of Norra Lagnö featuring gifts, handicrafts, and crafts, as well as treats and delicacies of various kinds. Parking is available for anyone arriving by car.

Viksjö Scout Troop invites you to a Christmas market at Ekollongränd 2, featuring a café, tombola, fishing pond, and the sale of food and Christmas items.

At Sjöhuset in Ängby Park, you can shop for sustainable Christmas presents while supporting local small businesses and hobbies in art, crafts, and holistic health. Have a coffee and something to eat, make new connections, and enjoy the cosy surroundings. Sjöhuset is located at Johan Tillanders väg 15 in Ängby Park, a ten-minute walk through the woods from Blackeberg or with bus 113 to Blackebergs gård.

Herrängens gård is holding their traditional Christmas market again this year. On the first weekend of advent, the charming old wooden villa will be filled with exhibitors selling crafts, ceramics, jewellery and wreaths, as well as edible goodies such as smoked meat, pickled herring, preserves, coffee and tea. The café will be open and Father Christmas will be receiving children's wish lists in his workshop.

Every year on the first weekend of Advent, Skokloster Castle invites you to a traditional Christmas market. For two days, visitors can enjoy handicrafts, local delicacies, winter guided tours and Christmas presents in the shop. The 17th-century castle is one of the world's best-preserved baroque castles and can be reached by both car and public transport.

Konstfack art school in Telefonplan trains up a group of truly talented artists each year, specialising in various types of art: painting, sculpture, illustration, jewellery – and much more. You can purchase all of this directly from the art students at Konstfack's Christmas market. Entry costs 35 kronor.

On the 29th-30th of November, Hässelby Castle will transform into a sparkling Christmas market. Experience the flavours of Christmas with mulled wine, gingerbread, and hot dogs, shop for gifts, and enjoy a festive platter in the orangery. 

The Stora Sköndal Christmas market in southern Stockholm sells fine foods, flowers, handicrafts, and products focusing on locally sourced, home-produced, and organic items. There will also be snacks and food, festive entertainment, and activities for the little ones.

The Hässelby Villastad Folkets hus invites everyone to take a break from the Christmas hustle and instead come and enjoy music, refreshments, and community. You can also take the opportunity to find Christmas gifts in the form of various crafts.

For the fourth consecutive year, Smådalarö Gård invites you to the advent market in the archipelago. There will be delicacies from local farms, crafts, and pony rides for the children. From the grill, warming food, soup, and crispy waffles are served, and in Bloms Bar, festive drinks such as mulled wine, apple cider, and hot chocolate are poured. If you want to stay longer and enjoy more of the Christmas atmosphere and the archipelago surroundings, you can book a hotel package.

At 18th-century estate Nyckelvikens Herrgård, there will be an Advent Day on 30th November, featuring a market, a visit from Santa, pony rides, and accordion music. Don't miss the chance to say hello to the farm animals or to visit the ghosts in the attic – if you dare...

This is a traditional Christmas market selling treats, baked goods, crafts, and raffle tickets. Additionally, there will be a flea market with books, clothes, household items, and curiosities, as well as activities such as a pentathlon, a crafting corner, and a ghost trail. If you fancy a snack, both sweet and savoury options will be available. The market will take place at Aspudden School.

Midsommargården's popular Christmas market goes by the name Midsommarglögg, featuring glögg (of course!), crafts, design, and festive treats. They'll also have a packed programme for both young and old, including Christmas crafts, live music, choir singing, dance performances, snack sales, and dancing around the Christmas tree.

Hantverksladan Riddersvik invites you to a Christmas market with a craft theme. They sell, among other things, products from their activities in ceramics, woodworking, silversmithing, weaving studio, and art studio. Warm yourself with mulled wine in the café.

Sigtuna's popular Christmas market takes over the main square each year. While you're there, take a walk around in Sigtuna, Sweden's first town, and admire the picturesque surroundings.

Take a winter archipelago trip with S/S Blidösund, which arranges a journey to Almvik's Christmas market. You can also add a table reservation to enjoy food in the dining room on board, where à la carte dishes with Christmas-inspired options are served.

Sundbybergs Centrum is hosting a Christmas market featuring choral singing, gingerbread, a lottery, and market stalls with crafts and food. There will also be pony rides and a fishing pond for the youngest visitors, as well as the opportunity to meet Santa and hand over their wish lists.

Vinterglöd Christmas market takes place in cosy Jakobsbergs gård in Bredäng, which is filled with warmth, scents, and community. It's a market day where local artisans, artists, and food vendors gather to create an atmospheric and inspiring experience with crafts, art, textiles, and ceramics, as well as music, food, and coffee. Throughout the day, there will also be short talks on the theme of community during the festive season.

At Täby Park's Christmas market, exhibitors and producers who are passionate about locally sourced and handmade goods come together. Browse among crafts, handmade treats, gifts, and all kinds of delicious food that are perfect for the festive season.

Gamla Enskede's traditional Christmas market is a true classic that is being held for the 37th year in a row this year, for the first time under the leadership of Robin Delselius who also runs a café and bakery in the neighbourhood. Numerous vendors include everyone from market traders and engaged school classes to creative entrepreneurs. There's usually a wide range of crafts, food, and Christmas gifts available.

Färgfabriken Marknad is one of Stockholm's largest markets for arts and crafts and design. At the Christmas market, some 120 sellers display their works, and there will also be food, drinks, and music. 

On the second Advent of every year, a Christmas market is held on Rådhustorget in Vaxholm.Enjoy caramelised almonds, crafts, mulled wine, Christmas trees, and activities in a festive mix for both young and old.

On the second of advent, the fishing harbour in Nynäshamn fills with market stalls where you can buy sweets, cheese, sausages, chocolates, jewellery, candles, and much more. The market is held between Restaurant Kroken and the old boat hall, where you can also craft, dance, and listen to folk music. Santa Claus will accept wish lists, and if the weather permits, Mrs. Claus will go wakeskating. There will also be pony rides, horse-drawn carriages, and Christmas carols.

Torekällbergets open-air museum invites you to a Christmas market in the spirit of the 1800s. Peek into various homes and see how Christmas is celebrated there, meet artists and townsfolk, greet Santa, listen to Lucia songs, join in the joy of the farmhands' games, and much more. A festive day for the whole family.

This is a Christmas market run by nerds - but for everyone! But it's particularly well suited to anyone who likes dragons and elves, boardgames and computer games, fantasy, comics, Marcel, DC, cosplay and Japanese characters. Artists and private individuals will be selling a wonderful mix of new and pre-loved items.

Movie legends such as Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman have emerged as film stars, and directors like Victor Sjöström and Ingmar Bergman have worked at Filmstaden in Råsunda. Every year, Filmstadens Kultur invites you to a classic Christmas market in old-fashioned style on historically significant film grounds, featuring sales, music, film, and waffles.

At this castle market, you can enjoy handicrafts, festive treats, scented candles and Christmas decorations, as well as hot drinks from the food truck and a Christmas buffet inside the castle.

Meet local artisans and find Christmas gifts and edibles at the Görväln Farm Christmas market, organised by the Görvälnlammet association. On site, you can also eat and buy their own lamb sausages. There will also be pony rides for the little ones and a visit from Santa. To get to the market, simply hop on a free bus from Jakobsberg station to the farm.

This year it's time for Gasverket's first Christmas market! At Bobergstorget in the cosy Gasverket, there will be a classic Christmas market framed by the beautiful brick buildings around the square. Enjoy mulled wine, buy festive pastries, taste treats from the stalls, and pick up your Christmas gifts. Inside the auditorium at Berghs, there will be a Santa's workshop with Christmas crafts for the children, a quiz trail, and much more.

Kallhäll Scout Group have their HQ at Slammertorp in Görväln Nature Reserve, where they also invite you to a Christmas market. Follow the lanterns to the market where there are crafts and goodies for sale, as well as home-baked treats, freshly made waffles, and grilled sausages to enjoy. Take the chance to win a prize in tombolas and chocolate wheels, or grill marshmallows over an open fire.

The beautiful wooden town of Norrtälje is holding a Christmas market on the 7th of December. The town will be filled with various stalls where you can find Christmas gifts, decorations, sweets, lights, and everything you'd expect of a great Christmas market. Both Santa and Lucia will also be visiting.

The Craft Association KNUT in Bagarmossen invites you to a Christmas market on 7 December. You can browse among the members' textiles and ceramics.

Ornö Christmas Market takes place at Västergården, where there will be a festive atmosphere with crafts, delicacies, and the scent of fir, mulled wine, and homemade treats. Many islanders take the opportunity to visit the market, and extra ferries will run to the island for the occasion.

At the Christmas market at Eolshälls 4H farm, you can meet cute animals, check out the Lucia procession, have snacks, eat grilled sausages, and enjoy Christmas shopping that supports non-profit children's and youth activities.

At Artipelag's Christmas market, you'll find jewellery, art, ceramics, glass, and handicrafts. The emphasis is on local and nature-inspired products, as well as beautiful, sustainable, and innovative design.

There are always fun things happening at rural Siggesta Gård on the island of Värmdö. On the 13-14th December, it's time for their Christmas market with treats, warm mulled cider, Christmas buffet and open fires. A sausage or two will also be grilled, and local producers will sell their products and crafts.

At Vintervikens Gardens, there will be crafts, food, a Lucia procession, and music in a festive mix. Fires will be lit, saffron buns will be baked, and there will be Christmassy music and a Lucia procession. The garden café will, of course, be open.
