Experience and explore Swedish history, from the ice age to the present day, at the Swedish History Museum. With more than ten million historical objects from all periods of history, the museum is one of the largest in Sweden. Visitors are welcomed into other worlds spanning thousands of years, where you can experience dramatic personal destinies, battles for power, everyday life and celebrations. 

Exhibitions at the Swedish History Museum stretch back to early prehistory, on to the Viking age, via the Middle Ages and on to modern history. You'll find some of Sweden's oldest preserved items of clothing, Viking treasures, relics, unique armour, madonnas and much more. The Viking World exhibition is one of the world's largest viking exhibitions with 2500 original historical objects, and The Gold Room displays Sweden's most precious gold and silver treasures. In addition to the permanent exhibitions they also hold temporary exhibitions and organise activities for all ages. Listen to talks, attend theme days and warehouse tours, and there are exciting activities for younger visitors, where fun and learning go hand in hand. During the summer months, the museum's green inner courtyard is filled with outdoor activities, such as the chance to try Viking crafts and games. You can also bake Viking bread and visit the blacksmith's forge. 

The museum aims to be fully accessible and meet the needs of all its visitors. Join a guided tour, or wander around at your own pace with an audio guide. They also offer digital lectures and guided tours with the museum's educators. 

If you need to refuel or just fancy something tasty to eat or drink during your visit, head to Restaurang Rosengården. They serve a daily lunch special and coffee and cakes - all with an emphasis on sustainability. You can also take a break with a glass of wine or ice cream surrounded by climbing roses in the inner courtyard.
