Shibumi

I used to enjoy the old Shibumi on Kungstensgatan so I got curious about trying this new edition. Then I got worried based on a few mixed reviews. I ended up positively surprised. I wish I could give the place a 4.5 stars as both the service and the food were delicious. We ordered a lot of dishes to share and were disappointed by none. Each serving was something new and intriguing. Not much in common with the old Shibumi but yummy. Perhaps a little less refined. Some of the dishes were on the small side (tofu where are you?) but others were good portions, completely shareable. The desserts sounded unappealing but again we were positively surprised.

So why not 5 stars? I think the atmosphere could still improve a bit. In the other reviews I heard it was really loud. That was definitely not the case when we were there (a Thursday evening); there was some music but we could hear each other well. On the contrary, it felt a little empty and a little messy. The toilet has beer kegs in it and we sat next to something that looks like a glass-walled wine cellar but it also serves as a storage room. I was also irritated by the lack of napkins. I get the ambition to create an “authentic” isakaya feel. But at this price point, I think I’m entitled to having a proper cloth napkin. Also, small detail, but they didn’t have any proper sparkling water. Only “Vichy” which is quite salty. What’s wrong with regular (free!) bubblevatten?

So all in all: good food, great service. 4 stars well earned. If I get a proper napkin, some nice regular sparkling water and the atmosphere perks up a tad, it will be a 5. I’ll be back to check soon.

This was a very good experience! I'm not an expert in this type of cuisine but there were many Chinese guests, so I assume it is a good sign in terms of authenticity. This is the kind of place where you'll have to come a few times in order to know for yourself what combo of ingredients you like. There are so many options that it's easy to choose too many and then the soup tastes kind of funky! If you are a novice like me I would recommend choosing a handful of ingredients the first time and not go overboard with the quantity. I chose the spicy broth and it was really spicy - which was great for me! But if you are more sensitive you should know that this will burn! (kind of like Buldak noodles).

Aama Himalayan Kitchen

A fantastic discovery. Who knew Himalayan food was so tasty? Super soft dumpings that clearly looked home made. With or without the creamy soy-based soup. Great choice for vegans too. A little pricey for lunch but what isn’t nowadays? I’ll be back next time I’m in this part of town.

Black Milk Gastro Bar

An amazing dinner experience by the bar with very attentive chefs. Like a Japanese omakase but with Latin American influences. Their cocktails are also a hit and we tried one before getting started. We didn’t go for the cocktail pairing as we prefer sharing a bottle of wine. That’s why I’m not giving it 5 stars… I didn’t find the wine list amazing. It’s quite short and you definitely pay up but the quality doesn’t follow the price tag. Or perhaps we were unlucky. Overall a positive surprise. Could become a real gem if they fix their wine list. I’ll try again another time 💯

Better food than I expected! I was told the food was rather bland but in fact it was quite well executed and versatile. Miles away from the typical Indian you find in Stockholm! I was there for lunch and shared butter chicken and lamb shank, poppadum and naan. Deserts are also worth a look! Just the service was a bit odd. Long wait to start and then not a lot of smiles. But all in all I think I’ll be back!

Panini Internazionale Moodgallerian

I’m happy this Panini opened at the bottom of Mood Galleria. They offer the regular salads but also the warm bowls that are made to order. They have new dishes also. I always loved their warm pork bowl and raw salmon donburi. Now they also have both pork and chicken (and a vegetarian version) in the form of a ban-mi. So delicious! And they have warm
sciacciate with Parma ham or mortadella. I’m there several times a week now. And at a reasonable price! Can’t get tired of it.

We took the tasting menu as we wanted to focus on our conversation instead of choosing dishes. I wouldn’t do that next time though, as you just get a lot of everything. We were 3 and they basically make a menu for 1 and then multiply by 3, instead of giving us more different dishes to share. We could have tasted more different dishes if we had picked ourselves. For instance the gambas pil pil: we got so many we could hardly finish!
Other than that I did enjoy the experience. The dishes we got were imaginative and well executed. Classic tapas with a twist. My favourite dish was the gratinated mini scallops with butter. Decadent!
I will be back.
