The guide to brunch in the Stockholm archipelago

Bockholmen is housed in a charming 19th century merchant's villa in the inner archipelago, just ten minutes from the city centre. At weekends they serve a popular brunch, where the menu consists of European classics as well as other international flavours. Take a seat and enjoy both the food and the spectacular views over the water. 

At Vår Gård you can enjoy tasty food in calm and peaceful surroundings with lush greenery and views of the sea. You can get here by boat, car and light rail, and in just a short time you'll have swapped the big city for Stockholm's inner archipelago. During the cooler season they serve Sunday brunch as a buffet, while all year round you can brunch on sweet and savoury waffles, sandwiches and bowls in Vincaféet. The bread is home-baked and herbs come from the kitchen garden. 

Round off the week in beautiful surroundings on Djurönäset, where they serve lunch with three different hot dish alternatives and a salad buffet, or a breakfast buffet if you come early. What was once an electricity works is now a restaurant that also functions as a living room for Värmdö's residents and visitors. At weekends they serve a hearty brunch menu with dishes to suit most tastes, from classics like eggs Benedict and omelettes to substantial salads, moules, steak tartare and pizza. Sweet treats are of course available too; among other things you can indulge in French toast. Cocktails, mocktails or a bit of bubbly complete the experience.

Familjy-owned Dykarbaren is just in front of the steamboat pier in Sandhamn and it offers a beautiful view over the harbour. Come by for a weekend lunch; the menu includes everything from hamburgers and Toast Skagen to classic Swedish homecooking.

Combine art and brunch in archipelago surroundings close to town. You can get to Artipelag by car, bus, own boat or Strömma ferry. Enjoy the art exhibitions, beautiful architecture and surrounding nature before or after you eat brunch, which consists of your choice of main course from the à la carte menu, and a buffet with cold dishes and desserts. The café, Bådan, serves soup, salads, sandwiches and exquisite cakes and pastries against a backdrop of panoramic windows.

In the “hotel bay” in Saltsjöbaden, Holmen is a typical archipelago restaurant. People moor their boats here to stay overnight or to eat in a seaside setting. The menu doesn't strictly list brunch dishes, but features classics such as toast Skagen, prawns, burgers, cured salmon and meatballs, which we still think qualify as a really lovely brunch or weekend lunch – whatever you want to call it. Drink beer, wine and ambitious cocktails alongside. Start with oysters and bubbles for an extra luxurious touch. 

Fjäderholmarna is a popular island in the summer, both for its proximity to the city and for the seafood restaurant whose outdoor seating boasts an unrivalled view of the archipelago. At weekend lunch they mainly serve ambitious archipelago dishes with a focus on fish and shellfish, which work really well for brunch too. Enjoy venerable atmosphere and fresh breezes off the water.
