Where to find vegetarian Christmas julbord in Stockholm

Popular, plant-based ChouChou is run by chef Gustav Johansson, who has made a name for himself for his excellent vegan food. At this restaurant inside the Mood shopping mall they'll be laying out an entirely plant-based Christmas buffet from 1–23 December, filled with classic dishes as well as the restaurant's own, new creations. Their julbord is served several days a week with several sittings per day.

Hermans has long been a favourite vegetarian spot in Stockholm and the view's not bad either. They serve a completely plant-based julbord with vegan-friendly interpretations of classic Swedish Christmas dishes. A popular alternative to traditional ham and pickled herring.

Ulriksdals Värdshus' traditional julbord has plenty of dishes specially made for vegans and vegetarians - and of course a lot that is naturally vegetarian and vegan. When you arrive you're offered a special menu where you can see all the dishes that are meat-free, and at a slightly lower price – vegetarians get a 30% discount on the bill and vegans 40%. The julbord is served in charming surroundings in Edsviken, just 15 minutes outside Stockholm city centre. 

The magnificent old state archive building has been serving a popular julbord for the past five years. The historic rooms create a glamorous festive feel and the buffet, created by celebrity chef Niklas Ekstedt, is generously laid with classic Christmas food, including plenty of green options for vegetarians and vegans.

Fotografiska welcomes in Christmas with traditional festive flavours combined with luxurious flavour sensations, and naturally there's an emphasis on minimising food waste as much as possible. The focus is on sustainable enjoyment, with flavours that belong to the season and Christmas specifically. The menu is plant-based, with a few animal protein elements - and is for groups of 75-184 seated guests. Your party will have the beautiful dining room to yourselves and table service in the order of the day. 

Enjoy an alternative julbord in the heart of Stureplan with a round trip to Asia at East. Korean pancakes, modern sushi and other Asian dishes, with masses of vegetarian and vegan options, are just a few of the things you'll find on their buffet table. Round off your meal with Asian-inspired sweet treats.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Enskede Värdshus transforms into a sparkling winter dream with elves, atmospheric music, and shimmering decorations. Of course, there's also a focus on the Christmas buffet, which includes an entirely vegetarian spread featuring everything from vegetarian pickled 'herring' to stews and plant-based meatballs. Just remember to save a little room for the dessert table.

At Mister French, a generous Christmas buffet is served with a view of the water, Skeppsholmen and Gröna Lund. The focus is on classic Swedish flavours accompanied by head chef Johan Nilsson's personal favourites. Johan has a particular fondness for vegetarian dishes and the Christmas buffet will include plenty of plant-based options. Plant 'meat'balls, vegetarian sausages, flavourful vegetable dishes, and vegetarian pickled herring are just a few examples.

Outside Villa Godthem the snow is (hopefully) glistening and open fires are crackling inside and out. In an the old merchant's villa out on Djurgården, the restaurant lays out a classic Christmas buffet, with dishes made according to classic recipes and with traditional ingredients. But it's not all meatballs and chipolatas - plenty of the dishes they serve are vegetarian and vegan. 

Ulla Winbladh has been serving a traditional julbord out on Djurgården for decades, but that doesn't stop them from catering to their vegetarian or vegan guests. You'll find plant-based versions of all the traditional julbord dishes, such as vegan pickled herring made from aubergine and zucchini, grilled tofu, vegan chipolatas and "meat"balls with mushroom sauce.

Italy is widely known for its vegetarian cuisine, something the chefs at sunny Basta have embraced. You can enjoy a completely vegan Christmas dinner in a Capri-inspired setting here. Traditionally Christmassy? Not particularly, but who cares when you can indulge in luxurious pasta, hearty salads, dolci, and other delicious treats – perhaps accompanied by a glass of wine or a cocktail? Choose between a small and large menu.

Florentine is hosting a super-Italian Christmas dinner featuring classic dishes from Italy, made with top-quality ingredients. The menus, which consist of either three or four courses, can be made fully plant-based, with dishes such as antipasti, vegan bolognese, and pistachio panna cotta. If you want the full experience, you can combine it with a drinks package.

Biblioteket Live lays out a classic Swedish Christmas buffet in elegant Art Deco surroundings. Homemade Christmas food is combined with well-composed drinks packages and an atmospheric ambiance. Anyone who wants to skip the meat and indulge in the vegetarian delights on the table will receive a generous discount on the bill.

Just a short boat ride from the city centre, Rökeriet oozes Christmas spirit, in beautiful archipelago surroundings and with a large vegan Christmas buffet with elements from their own smokehouse. Their julbord culminates in a room filled with sweets and desserts. Meat is also served, if anyone in your group is carnivorous. 

At Hard Rock Cafe, they serve an American Christmas buffet with a focus on meat, but there are also quite a few vegan options such as vegan burgers, Quorn fillet, sweet potato fries and lime and raspberry mousse cake. If you want a drink to go with your meal, you can order a drinks package that includes mulled wine, wine, snaps and coffee.

O´Learys Tolv at Globen warmly welcome their guests to a fun-packed julbord. They serve a classic Swedish julbord with a generous vegan table in a space that has plenty of room for both large and small groups. In addition to food and drink you can entertain yourselves with bowling, shuffleboard, karaoke and more.

At Capricci, they've swapped out the traditional Christmas buffet for a wintry four-course menu. In cinematic surroundings overlooking the water, they'll be serving crispy brioche bread as a starter, saffron risotto as a primi, confit portabello mushroom as a main course and an apple tartlette for dessert, with familiar flavours given Capricci's own Italian twist.

At the Spritmuseum on Djurgården they've been busy infusing spirits and preserving the summer harvest. Local producers and ingredients take centre stage at this popular museum restaurant. Their entire Christmas menu is made from ingredients from local producers and the restaurant's own gardens which are served both to the table and as a buffet. If you're vegetarian, there are alternative options for all courses.

Växthuset, which shares its premises with Under Bron, serves a seven-course julbord with Swedish, plant-based ingredients in season as well as a wine package with selected natural wines. You can also book their chambre séparée and catering.

Källarbyn in the Old Town presents a plant-based and organic Christmas feast curated by pioneering chef Anders Ramsay. Indulge in a generous julbord brimming with both classic and new flavours. Mulled wine and non-alcoholic drinks are included in the price.

In December, the French Dining Room at the Grand Hotel Saltsjöbaden transforms into a cosy Christmas oasis with a warm and homely atmosphere. Both classic dishes and some new, vegetarian options have their place on the Christmas table here. If you want to go all in, you can book the hotel's Christmas package which includes the Christmas buffet, overnight stay, spa, and hotel breakfast.

Who says a Christmas buffet has to mean meatballs, sausages and pickled herring? Boulebar skips all the Swedish classics and focuses on a French Christmas celebration in four servings, which also includes a boules game with a guide. The food is served directly at the table, and the whole menu package can be made vegetarian.
