Boundary-breaking art exhibitions, activities, food and contemporary design best summarises Artipelag's offering. Nestled among rocks and pines on the island of Värmdö, this architect-designed art gallery in the archipelago is an internationally recognised destination located between the city and the open sea, just 20 minutes from the city centre.
Art Gallery
The 3000-square-metre museum is one of Stockholm's largest. Both classic and modern art transcending the decades is showcased here - all with the aim of attracting and surprising a wide audience. The museum houses five different exhibitions and a large Artbox, which includes an activity area for children. The design boutique sells interior design objects, pop art and more.
Bådan Café & Konditori
Artipelag also aims to elevate visitors' dining experience. The large entrance area houses Bådan Café & Konditori, which serves salads, soups, sandwiches, cakes, pastries and desserts from their own bakery, with an emphasis on seasonal, locally-produced ingredients. All the bread and baked goods are baked from scratch using artisanal techniques and top-quality ingredients. Classic pastries and bread sit alongside slightly more contemporary creations. Outdoors there's a large alfresco dining space with views over the waters of Baggensfjärden.
Artipelag Restaurant
Right at the top of the building, on the third floor, the restaurant has a harmonious style with nautical-style wooden floors, specially-designed furniture and large panoramic windows with views over Baggensfjärden. They serve a summer buffet from Thursdays to Sundays.
Exhibitions
"Essence-Eksistence" by German contemporary artist Anselm Kiefer will be exhibited indoors until 8 January 2023 and is Artipelag's largest ever art exhibtion. Outdoors, you can view sculptures in their permanent exhibition Sculptures in Nature.
Live summer events 2022
The music programme is curated by Jacob Kellermann and includes everything from jazz, folk music and classical music to dance and poetry reading. The common denominator is meetings - interaction between culture and nature and interplay between the various artistic forms. Events are held every Thursday and Sunday between June and August.
For children
Various activities for children of all ages are organised both indoors and out in Artipelag's beautiful natural surroundings, particularly at weekends.
Getting here
Artipelag can be reached by car and public transport, and there's a direct bus to and from Cityterminalen every day during the summer months. The marina is ideally suited for people with their own boats, otherwise Strömma ferries run on a regular schedule from Nybrokajen in Stockholm during the summer months. Fancy a walk? A handicap-accessible boardwalk leads from the parking lot via the jetties and to one of the entrances.
