Legendary Restaurang Räkan has established a bit of a cult following since opening its doors in Gothenburg in the '70s. Since 2015, the seafood restaurant has also graced Stockholm with its presence. A fishpond serves as the restaurant's centrepiece, remote controlled boats serve double duty, both entertaining guests and carrying food across the pond. This nautical-inspired restaurant pays homage to Sweden's West Coast.
Räkan, located just off Norra Bantorget, a stone throw away from the City Terminal is about as centrally located as it can get. The daily catch is brought up from the west coast and fresh seafood is served in a maritime setting. The restaurant is characterised by pond that dominates the restaurant upon which food serving boats bob about. Räkan appeals to a wide audience of friends and families, business travellers and seafood-enthusiasts.
With emphasis on Swedish classics, the fine dining inspired menu features predominantly seafood and shellfish (Räkan means shrimp in Swedish) as well as international flavours. Apart from the obvious seafood plateau, (served with homemade bread, butter and aioli) the offering includes bouillabaisse, the occasional meat dish, a vegetarian option and a children's menu. Late night dishes such as shrimp sandwich, cheese and cold cut platters are also available. Räkan serves both lunch and dinner throughout the week, and what better way to round off the week then with oysters and a glass of bubbly come Sunday? During summer months the outdoor terrace is a welcome respite.
