Afternoon tea in Stockholm

Hotel Diplomat has been serving freshly-baked scones, homemade jams, small cakes and pastries and all kinds of other teatime treats since the Sixties. They have recently updated their concept, serving up selected delicacies by award-winning pastry chef Annie Lundin to modern tea connoisseurs in their dreamy tea salon. 

Warm scones, ice-cold bubbles and freshly baked sweet treats directly from their own bakery are the order of the day when Fotografiska serves up afternoon tea. Guests are served several cold starters in sharing format, a main course and a dessert. Admission to the exhibitions and one of Stockholm's most beautiful views are included in the price. The menu can be ordered lactose- or gluten-free and vegetarian. 

You can pre-book afternoon tea for small groups at this cosy café, housed in a charming former apothecary's residence in Upplands Väsby. Tea or coffee, scones with jam and cream cheese, canapés and cakes are all included in the price. 

Afternoon tea at Haga Schweizeri starts with a teapot of the tea of your choice before a tiered cake stand filled with delicious treats such as Danish croissants is brought in. Afternoon tea is served every day of the week.

If you've got your spending pants on and are in the mood to luxe it up a little then Cadierbaren at the Grand Hôtel is the obvious place to go. Sandwiches and scones with accompaniments such as lime curd and whipped cream, cakes and pastries and fine tea blends are all served, as well as champagne, naturally, for those who want it. 

At 1920s-inspired Swing by Golfbaren in Vasastan, they host afternoon tea every Saturday afternoon, featuring scones, mini muffins with various accompaniments, smørrebrød open sandwiches, macarons and truffles, tea and coffee. Why not play a round of mini golf before or after?

The charmingly genteel Lady Hamilton hotel in the Old Town serves a popular afternoon tea buffet complete with finger sandwiches, scones, pastries, tea and champagne. You don't need to be staying at the hotel to have tea there, but it's a good idea to book in advance.

If you want to really treat yourself, head up to the twenty-third floor of the DN skyscraper, where Pontus Frithiof's luxury restaurant La Tour holds court. He and sommelier Mario E. Moroni have created a French-influenced tea menu in several courses, with hot and cold, sweet and savoury elements. They have carefully selected the teas to pair perfectly with the food, and have also produced their own house blend.

Villa Godthem serves afternoon tea every day. Combine a lovely long walk around Djurgården with coffee, teas, sandwiches, sweet things and perhaps a glass of champagne or sparkling wine.

Herrängens Gård, a charming 17th-century farm in Älvsjö, serves afternoon tea on weekends. Arrive to a beautifully laid table, filled with classics such as small sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and sweet pastries. The tea is organic and comes from Lykke Kaffegårdar.

Three times per term you can listen to interesting talks on cultural history while you tuck into classic afternoon tea dishes. The menu includes tea, scones, jam and cheeses, fruit and a chocolate cannonball. 

Stockholm Tea & Garden is an oasis for all in Vasastan. Choose between a Swedish and classic English menu - whichever you choose the idea is to stay a while and treat yourself. Enjoy the obligatory cake stand full of goodies in beautiful surroundings. 

In the Mood for Tea has a wide range of different teas from all over the world, but primarily Asia and China. You can try a free sample of their tea palette of green, white, yellow and black teas.

A swanky entrance on Sibyllegatan leads you in to Sibyllans Kaffe och Tehandel, where you can try all the tea blends the world has to offer. The store has been around since 1916 and loyal customers come regularly to stock up on their favourite blends.

This sweet little tea shop opened in Södermalm back in 1978, and since then they've been selling a generous selection of aromatic teas with an emphasis on Asian flavours. Naturally you can also buy the popular Swedish classic tea blend Söderblandning here too.
