Celebrate midsummer in Stockholm

Celebrate midsummer at Skansen over three days. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday you can enjoy masses of different activities for visitors young and old. Dance around the maypole, make a wreath, enjoy folk music, dancng and storytelling or just enjoy the leafy surroundings. On Midsummer's Eve at 11am you can watch the raising of the maypole. The market is open and food and drink can be bought at several spots around the park.

Mosebacketerrassen has always been a popular option for anyone wanting to stay in town to celebrate midsummer. Patrik Arve will be leading Små grodorna (The little frogs) and other classic midsummer songs which young and old alike can dance and sing along to. Stay all evening and watch the sunset before you go home.

Leafy Vintervikens Trädgård just outside the city centre puts on a traditional midsummer celebration with dancing around the maypole and midsummer food in the café.

Lean back, relax and enjoy traditional midsummer food. Villa Godthem has put together a classic midsummer menu with pickled herring, new potatoes, steak and - naturally - strawberries with vanilla ice cream. You can also book drinks packages. Eat in the salon or outside in the garden.

If you want to go all-in on midsummer, take a trip out to Djurönäset in the archipelago and celebrate with a summery supper in the restaurant and overnight stay in the hotel. Take part in the traditional midsummer celebrations in the public park or relax in the hotel's spa.

Rönninge by in Täby, a showfarm and rural community centre, organises a traditional midsummer celebration complete with wreath making, dancing around the maypole, barn dancing, musical entertainment, dance performances, and games for children. There will also be coffee for sale, pony rides, and other activities, and the local heritage museum and handicraft cottage will be open.

This Djurgården hotel invites you to a day with a maypole, singing, dancing, and flower garlands, all led by DJ Leo B and his fun-loving assistant Mia, dressed in traditional costume. Everyone's welcome to celebrate midsummer together. 

Celebrate Midsummer at great heights on the Capital rooftop bar. Midsummer is celebrated here over three days, with a special Swedish-style menu. Drop by to enjoy Skagen prawn toast, meatballs and ice cream with berries outdoors on the terrace or indoors in the cosy bar.

Lilla Hasselbacken opposite Skansen celebrates midsummer by laying out their annual Sill & Grill buffet. As the name suggests, it includes both traditional dishes such as sill - pickled herring - and other summery alternatives. Their snaps package is a popular add-on and if you want to skip the shots there are plenty of non-alcoholic options.

Debaser is hosting a fantastic midsummer party both outdoors and indoors. During the daytime, the sunny pontoon is open, and in the evening they'll be holding an Afro rave inside the club. Midsummer's Day will be celebrated with a Latin American party. 

Would you rather enjoy a relaxed midsummer? At Smådalarö Gård Hotell & Spa you can relax and enjoy 24 hours of luxury in the heart of the Stockholm archipelago. On Midsummer's Eve you can make flower wreaths and then sit down to eat next to the water. The midsummer lunch rounds off with a strawberry cake and in the evening they serve a summery two-course dinner. The grand Östermalm brasserie Astoria expands its menu on this special day. In addition to their regular à la carte, they also list a Midsummer plate on the menu, featuring pickled herring, new potatoes, eggs, red onions, and brown butter.

Torekällberget open-air museum in Södertälje celebrates midsummer with folk dancing, merry-go-rounds, puppet theatres and other fun activities for the whole family. The maypole will be raised at 3pm, followed by dancing around it. 

Celebrate the arrival of summer at Lilla Baren at Riche, where they host an alternative yet traditional Midsummer party. It starts at 1pm, when lunch is served, consisting of a buffet with pickled herring, new potatoes, gravlax, and strawberries with cream. The whole event is accompanied by the musicians Bengt and Maria, as well as Gothenburg musician Martin McFaul who leads the occasional drinking song. Sturehof is famously open every day of the year, including Midsummer. They host a traditional Midsummer celebration with a Midsummer platter á la Sturehof. It consists of their own pickled herring, Matjes herring, crayfish herring, gravlax, and Skagen prawn and dill mayo. Naturally, chilled snaps is also served.

High above the rooftops, Gondolen celebrates midsummer with a three-course menu featuring Swedish summer flavours. For starters, they'll be serving pickled herring and classic accompaniments, for the main course grilled fillet of beef and lobster, and for dessert a strawberry dessert. You can also add a drinks package with beer, schnapps, wine, and punsch to the menu.

For the twenty-eighth year in a row, M/S Vindhem will be setting out on a midsummer cruise. Onboard, there will be a prawn feast with unlimited freshly baked bread, aioli and butter, or alternatively, tacos with minced meat and traditional toppings, while the archipelago in her summer plumage slowly passes by. After dinner, Månsson Allstars and Micke D will provide musical entertainment.

Located in leafy Hagaparken, Stallmästaregården's restaurant and hotel are situated right next to the waters of Brunnsviken. Enjoy midsummer food for lunch or dinner, take a stroll in the beautiful surroundings, and finally retreat to the hotel.

If you want to celebrate midsummer in the archipelago one suggestion is to take the bus or boat to Waxholms Hotell, where you can celebrate midsummer with a three-course meal, overnight stay and archipelago breakfast. On the island of Sandön, midsummer celebrations take place in Sandhamn harbour at 3pm and onlookers are encouraged to join in the classic midsummer songs. On Grinda island, traditional festivities include decorating the maypole, troubadour music and dinner at Grinda Wärdshus.
