This laid-back neighbourhood restaurant from the popular Bockholmen restaurant group is open all day and serves food with European, mainly French, influences. Sweden's northernmost region is nearer than you think, at Knut Bar on Regeringsgatan. It doesn't get more central than this, in the heart of Vasagatan, where they pour beer and serve traditional Swedish cuisine for lunch and dinner all week long. Choose from meatballs, schnitzels, and toast Skagen, or opt for pub favourites like burgers, and pair your meal with something nice to drink.

At the top of the Åhléns department store in the city centre, Basta resembles Capri more than Stockholm. With cheerful, bright colours, patterns, green plants, and a sunny rooftop terrace, this is a place to forget the everyday life outside. Choose from Italian classics such as pizza, pasta, and meat and fish dishes that can be washed down with a glass of Italian wine, beer, or cocktails.

In a stylish izakaya environment with rice lamps hanging from the ceiling, subdued lighting, wall murals, and simple wooden furniture, Wäng Izakaya serves flavours from Southeast Asia: Japan, China, Thailand, and Korea. The restaurant is run by a sibling duo whose vision is to create a social dining experience with small dishes shared around the table. Tropical cocktails are served alongside.

Just as the name suggests, chicken (and other poultry) is the order of the day at Bird on Regeringsgatan. The menu consists of streetfood, including hot wings and other American-inspired dishes and you can wet your whistle in the bar with a wide range of beers, bubbles and wine accompanied by great music.

This watering (or, rather, wining) hole at the far end of Drottninggatan has a wealth of experience and knowledge around wine and winning flavour combinations. The menu includes small and medium-sized dishes perfect for pairing with wine and sharing with friends.

At Bun Meat Bun they make their burgers from coarsely-ground chuck steak, fry them using the "smash technique" and then serve them with potato burger buns from a local bakery and a choice of sides and sauces. The smash technique, where the meat patty is smashed down onto the fry area to give the meat a crisp surface, has become their trademark. The menu also includes vegan options, as well as homemade milkshakes made with ice cream from Lejonet & Björnen.

You'll find this Asian restaurant on Vasagatan, a stone's throw from Stockholm Central station. Their aim is to serve the best elements of Asian cuisine, with inspiration from cities such as Bangkok, Peking, Seoul and Osaka and classic dishes such as sushi, bibimbap, ramen and stir-fries.

Hotel guests and passers-by alike are welcome to The Lounge at the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel in the city centre. Classics such as meatballs and burgers are served at reasonable prices.

They serve top-notch fish dishes such as fish burgers and fish tacos, as well as hearty salads with generous amounts of fresh ingredients. At lunchtime there's a constant stream of takeaway diners and seated guests, but in the evenings the tempo reduces, the china comes out and they swap to table service.
