Ho's

Award-winning in Hornstull

Ho's isn't generally thought of as the hippest of restaurants, but as an award-winning Chinese restaurant with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere it draws in a regular crowd of friends, colleagues and families. Dishes are simple and authentic with inspiration from Cantonese cuisine, Sichuan and Shanghai.

Sharing food from Sichuan

Ling Long, in the Story Hotel, has moody lighting and hip modern interiors. The menu consists of small dishes made from Nordic ingredients inspired by the Sichuan province of China, as well as Balinese and Singaporean cuisine. Much of it is vegetarian, but there are also fish, poultry and meat options and fabulous cocktails with Asian flavours.

R.Asia

R.Asia

Chinese for the whole gang

At first glance R.Asia seems like a simple buffet joint, and they do serve a popular buffet at both lunch and dinner. But those in the know know that they also have a notorious chambre séparée where larger groups can embark on an unforgettable culinary journey. Leave any scaredy cats or picky eaters at home, because the chefs go all in here and they aren't afraid to use slightly more unusual ingredients in their cooking. Or to serve copious amounts of the strong Chinese spirit, baijiu.

Barobao

Steamed Chinese bao

Steamed buns with various fillings are the order of the day at Barobao on Mariatorget. Baozi, or Bao as most of us know them, are a Chinese dish that have become extremely popular internationally. Filings consist of everything from chicken to fish, pork or tofu - often with modern flavour combinations. Barobao is in pared-back, modern premises and it's easy to drop by for lunch or dinner.

Everything on the menu

Pong serves flavours from all over Asia with a culinary emphasis on China and Thailand. At their various restaurants they serve everything from sushi and wok to dim sum, curry dishes, Chinese tapas and a buffet where you can pick and choose whatever you fancy. The word Pong means meeting in Chinese and that's exactly what their vision is - to create a meeting place where everyone gathers together over food and there's something to suit all tastes.

Surfers

Tasty food and exciting cocktails

Do you like tasty food in modern combinations made with traditional ingredients? Surfers serves Chinese dishes with flavours primarily from the Sichuan province. Their small dishes are ideal for sharing, Chinese style. Order colourful drinks with explosive Asian flavours from the bar.

Lao Lao

Popular lunch restaurant

Ever since Lao Lao opened up in small premises on Hornsgatan in 2018 it's been a popular spot. Drop by to eat authentic Chinese dishes such as their signature dish, jianbing - a substantial crepe that's a classic streetfood dish in northern China. Bear in mind they're only open for lunch.

China

Authentic Chinese with surprises

If you don't know about Restaurang China on Ringvägen it can be easy to miss, but once inside the doors a culinary experience awaits. Ambitious Chinese food is the order of the day, with signature dishes such as Peking duck, special dishes that have to be pre-ordered and innovative dishes that stand out from the crowd.

Formosa

From à la carte to tasting menu

Formosa, which opened in 1968 and has more than 50 years of experience, is one of Sweden's oldest Chinese restaurants. They serve up authentic Chinese cooking from various different regions from their restaurant on Kornhamnstorg in the Old Town in the form of both lunch and dinner. At dinner you can choose from the á la carte menu, ambitious tasting menus and comfort food in the form of hot pots.

Waipo

Chinese in tapas form

Waipo serves authentic Chinese food in tapas form, perfect if you can't decide what to order or want to share with your table. This award-winning restaurant in the heart of Stockholm city has a muted, elegant and warm atmosphere. They're open for lunch and dinner and their menus include innovative Chinese dishes, with meat, fish, poultry and vegetarian options.

Xiang Yue

Authentic flavours

This slightly tucked-away restaurant is run by a Chinese couple who want to share China's food culture with home-cooked food. Charmingly, the menu is directly translated, listing dishes such as "sandy sand pork ribs" and “dry and fatty intestines”. Our recommendation, however, is that you ignore the menu and simply ask the chefs to serve their favourite dishes. The place is also popular for takeaway.

Hemma Hos Dong

Welcome to the Dongs' house

Hemma Hos Dong is considered by many to be one of Stockholm's most authentic Chinese restaurants. Eat traditional dishes from different regions of China, based around ingredients in season If you've never eaten authentic Chinese food before, you can count on some surprising flavours - which will most likely make you want to come back here again and again.

Sibiriens Sinokök

Lots of vegetarian on the menu

Authentic Chinese street food in the form of handmade noodles, dumplings, baos and various small dishes is the order of the day at Sibiriens Sinokö. The place is particularly popular with the city's vegans, as the menu lists an unusually large number of plant-based dishes. If you come here on a Tuesday, you can count on the queue being longer than usual - that's when there's a dumpling party with Sinoköket's famous Xiao Long Baos in the spotlight. But remember: the best things in life are worth waiting for…

Propaganda Bar & Kök

A hidden gem

This little hidden gem on Magnus Ladulåsgatan may not look like much from the outside, but once inside you're treated to exciting fragrances and flavours from China in general, and the Sichuan province in particular. The chefs come from Xi'an and claim to cook the dishes their grandmothers used to prepare for them. Good ingredients, authentic flavours, and careful craftsmanship are the keywords here. The drinks menu includes both Chinese beer and baijou.

Lao Wai

Plant-based dishes

This vegetarian restaurant has been on Luntmakargatan for many years and is something of an institution in the area. Culinary inspiration comes from Sichuan and Taiwan and food is cooked without eggs or dairy products. Instead, fresh vegetables, organic tofu and other selected ingredients are used.

Plus 86

Chinese bbq feast

At Plus 86, they've taken classic Chinese flavours and heated them up a couple of degrees with a quick go on the grill. Chinese BBQ is the name of the game here, with dishes such as grilled lamb and various spicy skewers. You'll also find small tapas dishes, noodles and bibimbap on the menu.

H-hus

Just like in Shanghai

Chinese food culture in general, and dishes from Shanghai in particular, is the order of the day at H-hus. All the food here is prepared using fresh ingredients in season, and then enhanced with sauces and flavours characteristic of Shanghai's cuisine. There's a focus on fine knife work and optimal cooking methods such as burning, steaming, simmering, and frying.

Chong Qing

Worth a (short) trip

You'll find Chong Qing opposite Hornstull on the other side of Liljeholmsbron. Chong Qing is the name of a city in Sichuan province famous for their characteristic spicy cuisine. This Chinese neighbourhood restaurant is regarded as being well worth the short trip outside the city centre with dishes that are ideal for sharing with your table, just like in China. The concept is simple yet tasty, with authentic dishes including wok, dumplings and noodles.

Pings Sakura

Hot pot and karaoke

If you fancy trying something a bit different, this is definitely a spot to recommend. Order their signature dish, hot pot, a culinary tradition in certain parts of Asia. Hot pot means you cook your own food at the table, but the menu also includes classic dishes such as bento boxes, stir-fries and curries if you prefer. Round off the evening with a sing-song in their karaoke room.
