Stockholm's best Christmas lunch

This stunning art gallery serves a classic Christmas lunch in front of a roaring fire with views over Baggensfjärden. Right by the water in Nacka Strand, a short boat ride from Nybrokajen, Restaurant J lays out a traditional Christmas buffet with everything that goes with it. Gather friends, family, and colleagues and soak up the festive atmosphere by the crackling fire. You can also get to the restaurant by car or bus.

In a beautiful 19th-century villa belonging to Hotel J, a luxurious Christmas buffet is laid out, curated by top chef Mathias Dahlgren. Old family recipes combine with personal favourites made from the finest ingredients. The atmosphere is straight out of a old-fashioned Christmas tale.

Next to scenic Edsviken, just fifteen minutes outside Stockholm, Ulriksdals Värdshus serves traditional Christmas lunch in several courses. Choose from different types of pickled herring and other cold and smoked fish, vegetable dishes, charcuterie, hot dishes and, finally, a generous dessert table with both sweet treats and Swedish cheeses. All their meat is Swedish and much of the fruits and vegetables come from the inn's own kitchen gardens.

At Mister French you can enjoy a classic julbord with beautiful views from Skeppsbrokajen. All the usual festive favourites are served, along with modern and green alternatives. If you like you can also add a seafood menu to your meal. Round it all off with a visit to their room full of Christmas sweets and desserts.

Are you a larger group that wants to meet in the middle of the day for French Christmas lunch? Then head to one of Boulebar's parks where they serve a choice of three different menu packages, all with French flavours. Combine lunch with a game of boules for some extra fun together.

When winter covers Stockholm in snow and darkness, Hallwylska serves up an atmospheric julbord in their cosy, heated glasshouse. Enjoy traditional festive food such as pickled herring, meatballs, sausages, pates and salads before you tuck into the equally tempting dessert table.

Krusenberg Herrgård, located just outside Uppsala, lays out a classic Christmas table in its cosy, festively decorated dining rooms. In the swanky NK department store, Bobergs Matsal, now run by star chefs Tommy Myllymäki and Pi Le, serves a luxurious three-course menu featuring lobster salad, curried pickled herring and glazed Christmas ham as a starter. The main course includes butter-fried venison haunch followed by a chocolate dessert. There is also an option to add a cheese plate with jam and crispbread, as well as a drinks package including mulled wine and Christmas beer.

Fancy trying a slightly different Christmas bufffet this year? At Trattorian on Norr Mälarstrand Italian festive flavours are the order of the day. Come by to eat dishes such as truffle risotto, chargrilled meat, charcuterie and plenty of vegan and vegetarian alternatives, rounded off with tiramisu and other sweet treats.

Experience what might just be the city's most luxurious Christmas lunch at the Grand Hôtel. As usual their Veranda restaurant will be serving up their classic Swedish julbord with all the traditional dishes, against a backdrop of beautiful waterfront views.

In an old merchant's villa out in Djurgården, Villa Godthem serves a classic Swedish julbord with carefully selected dishes, from pickled herring to cookies and sweets. An atmospheric festive experience complete with roaring fire and the scent of mulled wine.

Take the ferry out to Fjäderholmarna and enjoy a luxurious Christmas buffet with dishes to suit all tastes. The buffet includes everything from pickled herring and organic charcuterie to masses of desserts. 

Liebling serves a sharing menu with charcuterie, sausages, schnitzel, stollen, and other German flavours for at least two people. The meal is accompanied by beer served in a boot-shaped glass and an Underberg.

Musician and TV chef Plura Jonsson invites you to an atmospheric Christmas at this Old Town restaurant. A generous Christmas buffet filled with delicacies, festive specialties, sweets and drinks is the order of the day.

The historic Tyrol restaurant at Gröna Lund boasts one of Sweden's largest Christmas buffets, filled with both game meats and classics, innovative dishes and many vegetarian options. The dessert table also has something to suit all tastes. Christmas lunch is served here from Fridays to Sundays.
