Where to find Stockholm's best vegetarian burgers

Their popular hamburgers and special grill technique are a huge hit, but the menu also includes two vegetarian burgers - one with fried tempeh and one with halloumi. The concept here is "fast casual"; great quality, simple and relaxed.

Flippin' Burgers doesn't just serve classic meat hamburgers, they also have great vegetarian alternatives. Almost all burgers can be made vegetarian or vegan with veg patties from Beyond Meat, based on peas. Choose from classic burgers that don't skimp on quality and add something sweet at the end for a proper food coma.

Burger chain Bastard Burgers from Norrland can be found at several locations around town, both in the city centre and beyond. It's the chain with the most vegan options on its menu, as almost all burgers can be made with Beyond Meat or "no chicken" patties. If you get a craving for dirty fries, you can get them either with cheese made from milk or a vegan cheese, and even dips and milkshakes can be made vegan.

You'll find this relaxed burger and beer joint at the bottom of Götgatbacken. Their beer comes from the Gothenburg-based Stigberget brewery, and they serve hearty street food, including burgers, alongside. There are several veggie burgers to choose from, and even a completely vegan one.

BrewDog has made a name for itself for its generous street food menu that lists several vegetarian and vegan options. In addition to snacks such as fried cauliflower, fries, nachos and dipping sauces, there's also a burger menu with several creative vegan and vegetarian burgers. Don't miss the pink burger, with pink brioche bread made from beetroot.

With a pair of actors, Joel Kinnaman and Mahmut Suvakci from Snabba Cash, at the helm Lily's delivers both a diner vibe and juicy burgers in Södermalm and Kungsholmen. The menu includes a few vegetarian burgers, including at least one vegan one. Don't miss their tasty shakes either.

"Vegan for the animals", is the motto at this Södermalm café - a homely place with sofas, soft cushions and dimmed lighting. They serve a completely plant-based menu here, with a focus on café food such as salads, pastries and sandwiches, but also burgers and beer.

Phil's were the first in Sweden to serve burgers made from Beyond Meat – and they're now the first to serve burgers made with Havredals plant-based meat patties. They also offer hamburgers made with halloumi. Several of their dip sauces are vegan, too.

Gnarly is a burger chain that's popped up all over town, serving "chuck roll" hamburgers with various sides and homemade burger buns. The menu includes two vegan burgers, one which is made from fresh falafel, dressing and vegetables. You can also swap the beef patties for halloumi in any of the burgers.

This hip hamburger joint is also great on beer. As well as proper, own-ground burgers they serve a veggie burger based on chickpeas, vegetables and fresh herbs. Choose from sides such as haricots verts or fries. You can also get gluten-free buns or simply swap your bun for a lettuce leaf.
