Where to find study- and work-friendly cafés in Stockholm

This hip espresso bar has six branches in the city and has - in addition to delicious coffee, buns and grilled sandwiches - great wi-fi. You'll find Macbooks up and running on each and every table. The Drottninggatan café has rooms hidden away at the back and the Södermalm branch is also perfect for anyone wanting to sit largely undisturbed. 

The tucked-away coffee roastery Drop Coffee by Mariatorget is smoking hot and draws in mainly creatives and wi-fi surfing media types. Lots of people stay for ages, which means things can get a little tight around lunch times and on the weekends. Count on a friendly atmosphere and several different light, pared-down rooms.

Nobis Hotel's hotel bar is generally associated with glamorous cocktails but plenty of people sit and work here during the day in the light, airy lounge. A peaceful oasis in the heart of the city which is open from late afternoon. The lounge, with its 28 metre high ceiling, has comfy sofa groups and a calm atmosphere to work in. Perfect for anyone who wants to round off their meeting with a grown-up post-work drink later in the evening.

Urban Deli is an all-encompassing concept with a café, restaurant and food hall all under the same roof. With masses of electric sockets and airy spaces, the café area is just made for getting your laptop out in. Replenish your energy reserves with everything from coffee and cakes to healthy smoothies and more substantial meals such as filled bagels and daily lunch dishes.

The lounge inside the Blique by Nobis design hotel transforms into a lively bar in the evenings, but during the day it's a great place to sit and work. There's an urban living-room feel, with leather sofas, communal tables and floor cushions where you can relax with your laptop and a cup of coffee.

The hotel café Gretas in the heart of Hötorget is a central, light and airy meeting point for a short meeting or longer working session. They serve healthy food and snacks, and the setting has a charming Twenties feel with Greta Garbo as the inspiration.

Eatery's snug industrial-style premises are perfect if you want to sit and work in harmonious, pleasant surroundings. If you get hungry during the day they serve both breakfast and lunch, as well as tasty treats to go with your coffee.

Combine a cup of fine coffee with a sandwich or a donut while ticking off a few tasks in peace and quiet. This coffee shop in Skanstull shares space with the beer bar and brewery Ölkemi, so if you fancy an after-work drink when you're done, you don't have to move a single metre.

Treat yourself to a slightly more luxurious study session complete with brunch at Le Östermalm. They serve favourites such as smoothie bowls, posh sandwiches, colourful salads and pancakes. The fabulous presentation and cosy surroundings provide a little extra energy for your studies or trickier work tasks.

This ambitious coffee roastery also makes a lovely little oasis for your mobile office. These days they have several combined café/stores where you can enjoy a coffee and sit and work in light, airy surroundings. As well as coffee and tea they serve savoury food and cakes and pastries.

At Stora Bageriet, which is run by the same people as Gast, you can give your study time a little glow-up with a Danish-style open sandwich made from organic ingredients and quality coffee. Or maybe celebrate a job well done with a glass of natural wine or beer from a local producer?

An unexpected choice, perhaps, considering the constant buzz at this lively coffeebar, but Kaffe actually attracts a whole load of espresso-mad laptop regulars. You can't use your laptop in the bar itself (spill risk) - so you'll need to compete for one of the spots by the high windows. Good value coffee is served along with small sandwiches and normal-sized buns, but remember to visit the cashpoint first. It's cash only here.

You'll often see students and remote workers tapping on their laptops in the lobby of this design hotel. Sit and work surrounded by large plants in playfully elegant surroundings with colourful furniture, patterned rugs and wooden floors. When the working day is over the bar's not far.

At Gast, you can fill your stomach while ticking off a few work or study tasks. Menu favourites include different varieties of eggs Benedict, hearty salads and American pancakes, and there are plenty of options for vegetarians to choose from. Their selection of coffee, tea and lattes made with matcha or turmeric is also extremely popular. Note that the café is completely laptop-free between 11:30 am and 1pm – a golden opportunity to take a break with a lunch date perhaps?
