The best hamburgers in Stockholm

Street food with New York vibes? Yep, that's the concept at Funky Chicken, and it's a huge hit with Stockholmers. There's always a queue for this food truck, reflecting the extremely high quality of the hamburgers. So it's no surprise they've been awarded the title of “Sweden's best burgers” three years in a row, most recently in 2024, by the Burgerdudes blog. 

Bun Meat Bun put Farsta on the hamburger map with delicious “fast casual” food and they now have several branches around Stockholm. The burgers are made using a special technique; the meat is 'smashed' rather than rolled to create thinner patties with a slightly crisp, caramelised surface. This is paired with unusually fluffy potato buns - a dreamy combo. Combine with a decadent milkshake made from organic ice cream from Lejonet & Björnen.

Rockin Grill took not only Norra Djurgårdsstaden but the whole Stockholm hamburger scene by storm when they opened in 2018. You can eat American pan pizzas, salads and other fast food here, but it's the burgers that really draw in the crowds. They also have a branch in Hammarby sjöstad.

Burger & Pastramis, or BAP as its commonly known, borrows its concept directly from traditional New York delis, serving seriously good burgers and pastrami. They're passionate about providing guests with a social dining experience, which means both the interiors and the service are warm and welcoming.

Franky's began as a street grill on Sveavägen, as successful as it was unexpected. These days there are several different branches, but the concept is still just the same - and just as popular. The burgers made daily from freshly-ground chuck steak are quite simply a must for die-hard burger aficionados.

As a steakhouse, Prime Burgers & Smokehouse, has, as you'd expect, really good burgers on the menu. In the heart of the city, you'll find classic burgers with cheese, pickles, and their own dressing, but also jalapeño burgers, chicken burgers, and brisket burgers. There are also vegetarian and vegan options available.

Authentic, no-frills American burgers are the order day at diner-style Flippin' Burgers. They make their hamburgers from scratch with meat from small-scale Swedish producers and burger buns from Magnus Johansson Bageri & Konditori. They also serve milkshakes with toppings from Pärlans Konfektyr.

At the bottom of Götgatsbacken, Stigbergets fot is a beer and burger joint originating from Gothenburg. The tried-and-tested combination of craft beer and street food is the order of the day here, executed with gusto. The menu has been created in collaboration with Barrels and includes a couple of excellent burgers and sides such as fries. 

Add together hearty homemade burgers, tasty craft beer and cosy surroundings and you have Barrels. The burgers come in everything from the simple classic between two buns to inventive combos that you've probably never tried before. The meat is also locally produced and comes from high-welfare animals.

Bastard Burgers is a popular streetfood chain with branches around Stockholm. They serve award-winning burgers and boast one of Sweden's most extensive vegan ranges. Burger inspiration comes from New York, but the quality comes from Norrland. Add some tasty sides, Bastard Burgers' signature beer or a cold milkshake to your order.

Östermalm's first mash-up bar combines food and drinks with games and activities. The menu includes several different burgers which can be ordered as single or double burgers. Truffle burger, chicken burger or a BBQ burger, perhaps? These are just a few of the options you can choose from at Tilt. 

The small white food truck Moe's Burger in Kista has become well known for its hamburgers. Devoted fans from near and far flock here to try the menu, which is regularly updated with new variations. Typically, it consists of six different hamburgers, each with its own character.

A popular and authentic diner-style fast food joint opened by actors Joel Kinnaman and Mahmut Suvakci of Snabba Cash fame. Juicy burgers go hand in hand with sides and milkshakes at Lily's Burger, and you can expect to see the odd celeb here too. 

Burger chain Brödernas has branches all over Stockholm and Sweden, and even in Spain. They make easy accessible hamburgers in all kinds of variations with plenty of sides and sauces to choose from. Every month they also serve a completely new guest burger created by a celebrity. 

This hamburger success story from Kalmar established itself on Sveavägen in autumn 2023 to the delight of many Stockholmers. The secret behind the tasty burgers is carefully selected ingredients, their own buns and 100% beef.

At Boo Burgers & Barbecue, it's all about smash burgers and BBQ made with quality ingredients for both lunch and dinner. There are several hearty burgers on the menu at an affordable price, including one with truffle mayonnaise.

It's all about big, bold burgers here, both classic ones and new, exciting variations. Burgers from the classic chain have become almost legendary all over the world, and in Stockholm they can be enjoyed in Vasastan, where the Hard Rock Cafe is something of a landmark on Sveavägen. 

This kiosk on Värmdö started out as a food truck. They serve several hamburgers made from organic mince from Mamma gård. Choose from classic cheeseburgers to slightly more unusual burgers such as Surf & Turf with prawn salad.  

Five Guys serves burgers at around 2000 locations worldwide, including Sergels Torg in Stockholm city centre. The menu doesn't make any major statements, sticking to a traditional line with classics like cheeseburgers and bacon burgers. You choose the toppings yourself, though, so there's room for creativity. As Five Guys fries in peanut oil, it's not recommended for anyone with a peanut allergy. 

K25 is a modern food court that gathers several restaurants under one roof. At burger joint Bun Meat Bun, they make hearty American-style hamburgers as well as a wide range of fries and dips. Rotisserie Mama opts for a slow-roasted chicken burger, while Snack Bar's menu lists a really cheesy version made with prime rib. If you fancy trying something a little different, Nū serves a Korean burger in both chicken and vegetarian versions.

The much-hyped Babas was originally located in Kärrtorp but they now have several branches around town, where they serve their homemade burgers in cool retro surroundings. Their international influences and top-notch ingredients have made them a favourite outside the city centre.

At the S2 food court in Solna, there's not just one but several places with burgers to choose from. One of them is Stekt, which is a pure hamburger restaurant that only uses prime rib and smashes the burgers for maximum flavour. Rotisserie Mama also has burgers on the menu and mixes flavours from London and New York, while Asian Nū serves street food and burgers that are good for the soul, health and planet, without gluten and lactose.

At AG, you get quality through and through, not least as a meat lover. The award-winning meat restaurant is perhaps best known for its fine steaks, but naturally the menu also includes one of the city's best hamburgers. Sit and eat in a former industrial premises that's been given a stylish design makeover.

At Omnipollos Kyrka, in an old church in Sundbyberg, you can enjoy burgers and craft beer. A brewery, tap room, and restaurant are all housed under the same unique roof. The menu features several different burgers, and there are also vegetarian and vegan options available.

Grill Ruby's chargrilled hamburgers have been drawing fans to the Old Town for years. The restaurant opened in 1980 and is something of an institution, frequented by everyone from politicians to artists. 

This playful steakhouse in the heart of town serves a hamburger "extraordinaire", with chuck steak, gruyère, bacon and onion rings, served with pommes frites and truffle dip. The hamburger can be ordered in different sizes and they also serve a vegan burger.
