They've even managed to fulfil the Italian Chamber of Commerce's strict criteria for authentic Italian restaurants.

Giro is the result of collaboration with Da Michele, one of the oldest pizzerias in the world. Through the use of a unique leavening method, their signature pizza dough is freshly made every day and served in stylish surroundings on Sveavägen. Not surprisingly, their pizzas are some of the most talked-about in Stockholm.

Grab a seat among the colourful bistro chairs and communal tables and find out what this rustic pizzeria in Vasastan is all about. Ingredients and flavours take centre stage on the small-scale menu, which is filled with selected pizzas. Don't miss their New York-influenced sister restaurant in Södermalm which serves pizza slices and natural wine.

Deglabbet is a special kind of pizzeria as it's also a laboratory. The kitchen is constantly working to make their pizza dough better and better. The menu includes vegan and vegetarian alternatives, as well as dessert pizzas and snacks. Eat on site in the living-room style surroundings, or buy your pizza to take home.

Stella, run by the same team as Michelin-starred Etoile, opened its doors on New Year's Day (international pizza day) 2022. Inspired by Swedish pizza traditions, they've created an intimate pizzeria whose menu includes Hawaii and kebab pizzas. Children under 12 eat for free when accompanied by a parent.

This industrial-chic pizza joint focuses on local quality produce and innovative flavour combinations. Pizza is sliced and served on large platters - ideal for sharing. Try both classic pizza and their modern posh pizzas with gourmet toppings. All pizzas can be ordered gluten-free and with vegan cheese.

Popular Neapolitan pizza that first opened on Roslagsgatan in Siberien and can now also be found in Södermalm. Lots of people come by to eat pizza and small dishes, enjoy a glass of wine and hang out in the outdoor dining area. If you pick the right day you can order a kebab pizza, or come by on a Monday for the soft-serve ice cream buffet. 

This Östermalm classic is a firm favourite for their Roman pizzas. The founder Valerio Amico is a former actor and the decor has a cinematic theme, with film posters and cinema chairs. Although there are two floors, the intimate space fills up quickly so be sure to book a table.

Get your pizza fix at 450 Gradi, well worth a trip to suburban Lidingö. Famous for its Neapolitan pizzas baked at exactly 450 degrees and made using authentic ingredients such as Italian pizza flour and San Marzano tomatoes. The menu incudes both traditional and innovative toppings.

Babette is housed in a former pizzeria whose pizza oven is still in use, and pizzas still take centre stage here, alongside selected dishes and wines. Babette is a popular spot, so it's a good idea to get there in good time (or book a table) if you want to be sure of grabbing a table. 

This atmospheric Italian restaurant is right on the waterfront of Hornstulls strand. They serve pizzas with tomato sauce made from San Marzano DOP tomatoes, among other dishes. Vegetarian, vegan or classic, it's your choice. Pizzas can also be made with gluten-free bases. 

Bananas is run by the same people as Indigo and Babylon and it's always packed with locals craving pizza and beer. The Neapolitan pizzas are baked in an imported wood-fired oven and the flour they use comes from a small-scale mill that specialises in Neapolitan pizzas. The menu also includes other Continental dishes.

At Trattoria Villa Romana, the authentic Italian atmosphere permeates the menu and kitchen's philosophy. Pizza here is baked with ingredients of 100% Italian origin, and dough is left to rise for 48 hours before being cooked in the wood-fired oven. When it comes to toppings, they go both classic and with a little twist of their own.

Magari has drawn inspiration from Irpinia in southern Campania, where pizza has its roots – at least according to the founders Nicolas and Giuseppe. They have created "Pizza Contemporanea," a modern interpretation of Neapolitan pizza. As well as pizza, they serve antipasti, pasta dishes and Italian desserts, with a menu that varies daily.

Bagging a seat at the much-lauded Omnipollos hatt can be quite an art, but the creative hipster pizzas (and Omnipollo's own-brewed beers) make it worth the wait. Satisfy your cravings with pizzas topped with exciting toppings.

Just outside the city, in Örby to be precise, lies Vedugnspizza, which many pizza enthusiasts say is well worth the journey. As the name suggests, only wood-fired pizza is served here (well, aside from a couple of smaller snacks to munch on), with both classic and slightly more unexpected toppings. The dessert menu even includes pizza topped with Nutella, mozzarella and berries.

Pizzas are baked in an old-fashioned wood-fired pizza oven in the centre of the room at this Italian restaurant, which has been a popular hangout since the Nineties. Dough is made according to a secret recipe from Naples. Choose from a range of Italian pizzas, one of which can be made completely vegan, and round off your meal with tiramisu or another Italian dessert.

For a taste of the Italian neighbourhoods of New York, get down to Karlavägen and combine crispy pizzas with Italian wines at Fat Frank's, a pizzeria and wine bar with an intimate feel. You'll find classic pizzas on the menu along with slightly more modern variations such as chevre and fig.

The same team that run Bananas are also behind Leoparden on Tegnérgatan. They serve Neapolitan pizzas and other food dishes in colourful premises with pink walls, yellow neon lamps and blue furniture. Drinks include beer on tap and European wines. 

Enjoy Neapolitan pizza in urban, Mediterranean-influenced surroundings. Basta's rooftop terrace at the top of Åhléns City department store goes by the name of Capri - for good reason. The dining room also has strong Italian vibes, with olive trees and colourful interiors. Pizzas include classics such as Napoletana and Margherita, as well as more unusual toppings.

Are you a wood-fired oven pizza purist? Then head to Bella Vista, where the wood oven takes centre stage in their operations. Choose from classic pizzas and Bella Vista's own variations, to take away or eat on site in the restaurant where chequered tablecloths, exposed brick walls and Roman columns create a relaxed, authentic atmosphere.

Solen is run by the same chef duo who run Michelin-starred restaurant Adam/Albin and you'll find it in the Slakthusområdet former meatpacking district south of Södermalm. They serve flavours from sunny spots such as Naples and Tel Aviv in a circular locale that, like the solar system, revolves around a crackling fire. If you're in the mood for a posh pizza there are several to choose from on the menu. 

Ciao Ciao has a long-standing reputation for their excellent wood-fired Italian pizzas served at their branches around Stockholm. Their flagship restaurant right by Östermalmstorg serves more than just pizza, although these make up a large part of the menu.

At Tony's, pizzas are baked with sourdough, fresh ingredients, and a lot of love. Choose between classics and more modern varieties, or create your own version by adding extra ingredients like grilled vegetables, various cheeses, sausages, and other tasty treats. 

Vår Pizza is a popular neighbourhood restaurant that serves a wide variety of top notch pizzas for both adults and children. Choose from everything from margherita to pizzas with Swedish flavours. There are also vegan and gluten-free options available.

This popular gourmet pizza destination is housed in an old water tower in Sundbyberg. Using organic and locally-produced ingredients, Delibruket Flatbread creates exciting new flavour experiences, unlike anything you may previously have related to pizza. The crowd is mixed and they serve a wide selection of beers from local breweries.

Il Forno da Gino serves Italian gourmet pizzas, and there is also a wide selection of homemade pasta dishes. As well as their classic wood-fired pizzas, the restaurant offers pinsa romana, which contains less gluten.

La Piccola Nonna is the result of two friends' passionate interest in good vegan and vegetarian food and pizza geekery. The menu includes classic variants, blonde pizzas and exciting creations. Choose between vegetarian and vegan, and enjoy.
