If you find yourself in Stockholm around the time of the Swedish autumn school break (October 30 - November 3) you'll find a wide range of great activities on offer for kids. Halloween falls on this week, so there are plenty of spooky happenings and ghostly goings-on. The guide includes current museum exhibitions, workshops, autumnal film screenings and other fun activities. The list is based around the Swedish autumn school break for 2023 (week 44) but many of the tips also apply to the surrounding period, or even year round.

Discover virtual reality
VREX in Bromma is a 300 square metre large virtual reality centre where you can play with the very latest technology. Play Skull Adventure and Zombie Apocalypse, among other games, and have a "real" experience with friends or family.

Halloween all week
Gröna Lund amusement park re-opens around Halloween, when it's decorated with pumpkins and offers a host of seriously scary, as well as slightly spooky, experiences for all ages. Enjoy the cosy autumnal atmosphere or scare yourself silly in houses of horror with zombies, clowns and other terrifying beings. There's something for everyone here.

Test your wings
Do you dream of being able to fly? You can get a taste of how it feels at Bodyflight in Bromma. Visitors can float freely in their enormous wind tunnel - for a short while at least, and supervised by a trained instructor.

See Stockholm from the water
Take the opportunity to see Stockholm in a new way during the autumn holidays when the Ocean Bus takes its tours around the city. Before you know it, the bus veers off the road and transforms into a boat that drives into the water and continues its journey from there. See sights such as the castle, Gröna Lund and Strandvägen during the 60-minute tour. The guiding takes place live, mostly in English

Creative reading holiday
Children and young people with time off school are welcome to celebrate their reading week at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern Sergels torg, Skärholmen and Vällingby. Dance til you drop

Seafood shack
Seafood Shack has become an annual tradition at Kommendören, inspired by charming shack restaurants in the USA where seafood and flavours from the sea take centre stage. This year's menu includes several favourites from previous years, such as lobster rolls, cajun 'popcorn' shrimp, crab cake sliders, and lobster spaghetti with caviar, but there are also several new additions. Regal half-term
What could be cosier than exploring the vaults of the Royal Armoury, where you'll find an extensive collection of fascinating objects from Sweden's royal history? Historic private palace
This museum was originally built as a private palace for Countess Wilhelmina von Hallwyl and her husband, and it looks exactly the same as when they left it in 1920. This year, “Hallyween” will be celebrated at the palace, when Miss Sträng comes to the strange house to work as a governess. But what are those stains on her apron, and isn't Läskil the servant rather pale? And why exactly did the last governess leave? A deep dive into southern European history
The Mediterranean Museum is open all week for exciting experiences. Take a trip through Egypt's 7,000 year history and try writing and deciphering hieroglyphs, and meet people and life stories from the countries around the Mediterranean. Reading week

Exhibition about boro textiles
The Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities is showing an exhibition about boro - mended, patched textiles from northern Japan. ¡Viva México!
At the Ethnographic Museum, the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is celebrated with song, dance and activities. Learn about the Holocaust
Sweden's Museum of the Holocaust preserves the memory of the Second World War for future generations through the telling of life stories. Ghost hunt at the manor house
Since parts of Krusenberg Herrgård in Uppsala burned down in 1707, the manor house is said to be haunted. During the autumn break you can go on a ghost hunt and help find spooky beings.
