A visit to Rosetta's should be beneficial to both the soul and the planet - which is why they focus on a largely plant-based menu, filled with American favourites such as tacos and burgers. And steaming hot mussels. The restaurant takes its inspiration from LA restaurants in the Sixties and Seventies and is named after soul queen Rosetta Tharpe.

This contemporary vegan concept highlights the importance of organic produce and unprocessed food without additives. Pepstop's menu boasts trendy cold-pressed juice cleansers, salads, chia pudding and raw brownies. The deli-style premises are ideal for takeaway but there are also a few seats if you want to sit for a while.

Vietnamese veggie option

Vietnamese cuisine is famous for its fresh, healthy dishes and at Eatnam on Odenplan you'll find masses of vegetarian and vegan options. The food is fast but well-cooked and served over the counter in hip surroundings.

All-vegetarian ChouChou is run by celebrity vegan foodie Gustav Johansson (@javligtgott) who, along with his team, delivers a wide palette of dishes from all corners of the world. Pick and choose from dishes such as cream-stewed meatballs, pizza, casseroles and lasagne, perhaps combined with a cocktail or a dessert. The restaurant has an à la carte menu and a buffet.

From their own vegetable gardens

Chef, restaurateur, TV presenter, star pastry chef and cookbook author (phew!) Dorotea Malmegård runs this well-loved Östermalm restaurant with her boyfriend Viktor Lejon. It started out in the couple's own home but now the restaurant has put down roots on Nybrogatan, serving up a menu that revolves around the seasons and what nature has to offer at the time. Much of what they serve comes from their own vegetable gardens on the island of Ingarö, such as berries, vegetables, herbs and flowers.

Centrally-located restaurant which gets its culinary inspiration from Asian cities including Bangkok, Peking and Seoul, with dishes such as sushi, ramen and bibimbap on the menu. Most dishes can be made vegetarian by swapping meat for tofu.

Hummus paradise

Reggev Hummus first saw the light of day on Ringvägen, and has since opened up another branch in Vasastan. Vegetarians and vegans can go wild at these small hummus joints, choosing from the many hummus plates which, in addition to pita bread and pickles, also come served with sides such as broad beans, grilled vegetables and plant-based chorizo. For carnivores there are also a couple of beef and chicken dishes.

Vegan Chinese grub

Lao Wai on Luntmakargatan serves vegan Chinese dishes direct from the wok. The whole menu is vegan and you're encouraged to order several dishes to share with each other, Chinese family style. A top tip for any vegans and vegetarians who love Chinese food.

Pat's Place is the perfect place to gather your friends for a modern Thai sharing dinner. The menu revolves around delicious tapas where classic dishes from Thailand fuse with elements from near and far. If you come in at lunchtime, you can choose a weekly choice of main courses.

Have you ever tried Georgian food? If not, you're in for a real treat. Tbilisi's Hörna is the very definition of a neighbourhood restaurant, but with a slightly more unusual menu. Authentic Georgian dishes are served here, many of which are vegetarian, such as stuffed cheese breads, dumpling-like khinkali, as well as various stews and grilled dishes.

Triton has become known for its creative three-course menus made with fine ingredients, which generally change daily. You don't need to pre-order a vegetarian menu or compromise on the dining experience just because you skip the meat – the restaurant always offers a vegetarian version of the set menu that receives as much love as the regular menu, complete with a tailored wine package.

The team at this Irish pub want everyone to be able to enjoy good pub grub, even non meat-eaters. Stockholmers are not exactly spoiled for choice when it comes to vegetarian BBQ restaurants, but a little way out in the archipelago, The Old Smokehouse offers a smoky dining experience that appeals to omnivores, vegetarians and vegans alike. Not only can many of the dishes be made entirely vegetarian – the restaurant is also one of the country's first to serve vegan 3D-printed “meat”.

Vietnamese food is the order of the day at Minh Mat and the menu is built around the five traditional Vietnamese base flavours – ngũ vị. Choose a few of their small dishes, which are mainly vegetarian, and experience the entire flavour range at the same time.

La Piccola Nonna Pizza

Pizza paradise

At La Piccola Nonna, the focus is on pizza, and not just any pizza, but completely vegetarian pizzas of the Neapolitan kind. Choose between red or white pizzas, to eat in or take away. All pizzas can also be made vegan.

Babajan is a bustling melting pot that blends culinary influences from Africa, the Middle East and Asia serving rustic homemade organic food. This vibrant joint is ideal for vegetarians, vegans and meat-eaters alike.

Luxury falafel

Posh falafel is the name of the game at Söderhaket Falloumi. The deep-fried chickpea balls are served in bread or a bowl with tasty side dishes such as pickled vegetables, mango hummus and their own falloumi sauce. If you're more in the mood for a kebab, this is also available in vegetarian form. During the summer months, the colourful venue is extended with an outdoor terrace facing Ringvägen.

Chinese pancakes

This homely spot has been attracting Stockholmers to Hornsgatan since 2018, and there's now also a branch on Barnhusgatan in the heart of the city. Lao Lao satisfies your cravings for authentic Chinese food, whether you prefer plant-based or animal-based dishes. The main character on the menu is jianbing, Chinese crepes with various fillings, but you can also choose from a variety of small dishes, the majority of which are vegetarian.

Tasty small dishes from China

Surfers isn't a purely vegan restaurant, but has nevertheless become a popular choice among Stockholm's vegetarians. They serve sharing plates from different corners of China, several of which are plant-based. The restaurant's tofu dish is particularly popular. Pair your food with innovative cocktails or try the Chinese spirits Baijiu and Shaoxing wine.

Verte in the Old Town serves an à la carte menu and buffet with flavours from all over the world, all vegetable-based. The menu is primarily vegan but they also have lacto-ovo vegetarian options. Enjoy a craft beer, a glass of organic wine or a classic cocktail with your food.
