The guide to the best nightclubs in Stockholm

Its fantastic location and popular clubs have ensured that Berns has remained one of central Stockholm's party meccas for many years. The house club LE! and techno club Neu both have dancefloors that stay pumping until late at night.

These mega-hyped clubs are housed in the former meatpacking district outside the city and this is the place to come to party to electronic music in a raw industrial environment. As well as several dance floors, Slakthuset, Kvarteret and Fållan have a huge roof terrace perfect for hanging out on sunny summer evenings.

"Södran" is a veteran on the Stockholm club scene, with popular clubs throughout the building. Whether you want to rock out to indiepop, listen to hiphop or go to great live performaces, this is the place to come. In the summer, Mosebacketerrassen, their large terrace bar, opens up with a party atmosphere and spectacular views of the city.

Since the '80s Café Opera has been the melting pot of choice for enthusiastic clubbers. It continues to live up to its renowned reputation, with opulent decor, a well-stocked bar, a large dance floor, spacious lounge area and hot DJs. Don't miss the club's live performances, where world-renowned DJs and top musical artists take to the stage. 

You can always count on Debaser - whether it's hanging out at the bar, partying or live music you're after. Just follow the waterside walking path in Hornstull until you get to where the party's at. They have regular theme nights with concepts such as democratic dancefloor. Keep an eye on their website for the current programme and ticket sales.

The former Birka ferry terminal in Slussen has been transformed into Stadsgårdsterminalen where Kollektivet has moved in and created a huge cultural centre, with live performances, exhibitions and nightclubs. Keep an eye on the programme to see who's putting on a club on any particular night - they play everything from afrobeats to techno here.

Trädgården is a popular summer club which transforms into Under Bron during the autumn and winter months. The club and event venue is a musical melting point, with an emphasis on electronic and underground music and performances. The relaxed ambiance and laid-back vibe appeals to locals and an ensemble of artsy hipsters. Trädgården's outdoor courtyard is decorated with fairy lights and mismatched furniture with bars, food trucks and dancefloors.     

Since 1994, Lemon Bar has been gathering clubbers from all corners of town to dance the night away to sing-along-friendly hits. Creative cocktails such as "Peach Please" and "Bramble Kikki" are shaken and stirred in the bar, and if you need to replenish your energy levels, the menu offers Japanese small dishes and sushi.

Over the years, Patricia has come to occupy a legendary spot on the Stockholm nightlife scene. This rocking nightclub boat and gay club is moored up alongside Söder mälarstrand. Choose from the Schlager bar, Rock bar, Nightclub and G&T bar, or one of the two terraces in the summer. The party goes on until 5am on Fridays to Sundays. 

Large sofa groups, art deco decor and a relaxed atmosphere result make for a nightclub with a laid-back house party feel. At Riggan, located in Bistro Rigoletto's old premises, things get more and more lively as the evening progresses, culminating well into the night. The bar serves cocktails, wine and various small dishes to snack on.

Fasching on Kungsgatan delivers packed dancefloors and innovative live jazz performances year after year. With its dedication to jazz and soul, the club appeals to a varied audience. The nightclub is open several days a week with concerts, gigs and live performances, but their nightclubs are on Fridays and Saturdays. Their Soul club is a perennial favourite.

The Stureplan stalwart East has been one of Stockholm's favourite clubs since the Nineties and they're also open until 3am every day of the week. Cocktails combine with DJs in both the bar and the restaurant and it's a fun, mixed crowd.

Oxid is right next door to Rumble/Sway. An evening here starts off as a relaxed post-work drink, before transforming into a big night out, with shots, popular music and a heaving dance floor. 

Hallwylska museet's inner courtyard is one of the most beautiful in the city. It's home to a continental restaurant and bar which are open all year round, providing a party atmosphere in the heart of town. Stop by for an aperitif, post-work drink or a whole evening wth cocktails, mocktails, wine or champagne.

The Laughing Duck isn't exactly a nightclub, but they often have guest DJs and they're open until 3am every day. People of all ages come to hang out over hearty, no-frills pub grub and drinks and the mixture of rock, hits and pop coming from the loudspeakers in the evenings often gets the crowd up and dancing. 

From spring 2022, Stockholm's oldest concert hall, next to Nybrokajen and a short walk from Stureplan, will once again host the Musikaliska Kvarteret nightclub, previously known as Musikaliska. The new Musikaliska is a lively, creative meeting place with various stages, bars and a restaurant. Sure to be a very popular hangout this summer.

This Stureplan club is open until 3am seven days a week, and has free admission. The place has been around since 1997 and is famous for its generous opening hours. Friday nights are for letting your hair down after work with DJs and special offers in the bar.

Club Backdoor call themselves the best gay club north of Ibiza, and the largest in Scandinavia. Opening hours are generous - you can party until 5am on Fridays and Saturdays here. This rainbow club welcomes everyone 18 years old and over, with extra love for homo, bi and queer partygoers.

Around midnight a large boisterous crowd of club-savvy urbanites gathers outside Rose and Fou Club, right next door to each other. Rose offers a classic nightclub setting with a vibrant mix of commercial music. Fou Club is a more intimate alternative, combining a French bistro with speakeasy-vibes.  

Spy Bar is another well-known Stureplan joint, which has changed direction in recent years and is now frequented by everyone from media types to music fans. Come early to ensure you get in, queues can stretch around the block. But once you're inside, you'll find a packed dancefloor and intimate atmosphere.

Sturecompagniet is one of Stureplan's oldest and most popular clubs. And under "Stures" you'll find Hell's Kitchen, which caters to an audience that doesn't want to go home after 3am. A favourite with celebs in the mood to party all night long.

Large, fun-filled nightclub just a few steps from Stureplan. VIDA fills up fast with guests of all ages in the mood to party. The summer terrace is perfect for dancing and hanging out under the stars all night long.
