Vegan restaurants in Stockholm

A post-work cocktail, lunch, dinner or weekend hang - you can easily spend the whole day at ChouChou. The plant-based menu, composed by head chef Gustav Johansson, includes everything from Swedish homecooking favourites to southern European dishes, served alongside cocktails, wine and beer. They're also the first restaurant in Sweden to serve 3D-printed filet mignon. 

Inside hip Story Hotel you'll find this restaurant which has been proudly serving a completely vegan lunch menu for some time, as well as a vegan set dinner menu option. Hotel guests as well as work colleagues and groups of friends find their way to Ling Long, and the menu includes both hot and cold dishes.

Craft beer and snacks such as vegan empanadas served in industrial surroundings - that's Bar Kaja in a nutshell. The menu isn't completely plant-based, but has several vegan options. You can also take part in regular pub quizzes, if you fancy activating those little grey cells.

Lao Wai is a Chinese restaurant which serves completely vegan dishes, free from eggs, dairy products and gluten. The flavours are mainly from the Sichuan province and Taiwanese cuisine.

Are you going out to eat with a friend who's convinced that a vegan diet means "rabbit food"? After a visit to Rosetta's, we can almost guarantee your friend will change their mind. The focus here is on soul food and comfort food in the form of tasty dishes such as fancy burgers, mac n' cheese and arancini – food that's good for the soul, quite simply. With consideration for the planet, the menu lists predominantly plant-based dishes as well as a couple of dishes with mussels.

Hang out here from morning until evening and socialise over food, drinks and board games. The menu consists of small dishes with plenty of vegan options, along with craft beer and wine.  

Right next to Vasa park you'll find Holy Cow, where authentic Indian food is served in a relaxed atmosphere. Indian cuisine is often a great choice for vegans, as many dishes are naturally free of meat and animal products. These dishes are highlighted under their own heading on the menu.

Neapolitan pizza is for everyone – at least at La Piccola Nonna. Their menu is completely vegetarian menu and everything can also be made vegan. The two friends behind the restaurant are both pizza geeks and love good vegan and vegetarian food. 

Some people raise an eyebrow when vegan beer is mentioned - surely beer doesn't contain meat? But far from all beer is vegan; animal products can be used in the clarification process and honey ca be added for sweetness. At this vegan beer bar they only serve beer made completely without animal products, as well as a vegan menu that includes everything from cheese and charcuterie to vegan toast Skagen.

Scandwich on Malmskillnadsgatan makes sandwiches guaranteed to fill you up, at both lunch and dinner. Their National Sandwich Championship win attests to the fact that they're also creative and delicious. Naturally, they serve vegan alternatives both day and night, which can be combined with a glass of natural wine and a some fries. 

Authentic Vietnamese flavors, prepared with care, are the order of the day at Nem Nem Quán in Hötorgshallen. If you prefer to eat plant-based, you'll find several options on the menu, such as noodle dishes, bahn mi and fresh spring rolls pimped with fresh herbs. Get takeaway or eat on site, perhaps with a Vietnamese beer in your glass.

The atmosphere at Basta's glamorous sister restaurant Florentine transports guests to a movie scene from the Italian 70s. This Södermalm gem serves Neapolitan sourdough pizzas, handmade pasta and various antipasti. Several of the dishes can be made completely vegan, including a vegan bolognese sauce, topped with ten year-old balsamic vinegar. The cheese on the pizzas can be replaced with a vegan variant.

Waipo serves up a wide range of authentic Chinese food served in tapas format. Pick and choose from the à la carte menu, which includes an all-vegan section, or embark on a plant-based food journey in tasting format. All served in elegant, international surroundings. 

Omnipollos Kryka is housed in an old church in the middle of Sundbyberg, where they serve beer from their own microbrewery together with beer-friendly food. Almost the entire menu, which consists of burgers and various sides, is or can be made vegan. Expect a nice vibe that really sets the mood for both post-work drinks and weekend hangouts.

This Södermalm joint is an Italian dream for anyone who prefers to eat plant-based. They have an entirely separate menu with vegan versions of Italian classics such as antipasti, pasta, pizza and Caesar salad. Got room for something sweet? Tuck into pannacotta, ice cream or sorbet – also vegan, naturally.

At Kalf & Hansen, all food is prepared with organic and locally produced ingredients, made into colourful dishes with your choice of quenelles. Almost the entire menu can be made completely vegan, so you're free to pick and choose from different salads and hot dishes such as wraps and open sandwiches. Eat on site or pick up a recyclable takeaway box.

Finding vegan pub grub can be a challenge, but tucked among the narrow lanes of the Old Town you can find exactly that. The Liffey is a classic Irish pub where they believe good pub food should be available to everyone, even those who eat meat-free. The menu includes dishes such as fish-free fish and chips and vegan cheeseburgers. Accompany your meal with a beer or perhaps a whiskey, in true Irish style.

At Minh Mat, vegan food is given equal billing. Vegan and vegetarian dishes are as important to them as meat and fish dishes. The restaurant is run by Minh Du Alneng, award-winning cookbook author.

Herman's restaurant in Södermalm has been around since long before the latest vegetarian and vegan trend. Guests can enjoy a completely vegan buffet at both lunch and dinner. In the summer months you can sit outside in their leafy garden and enjoy the views over Stockholm.

At Italian Pazzi, the range of vegan pizzas is so wide that they have their own menu. In addition to vegan cheese, the Neapolitan pizzas are topped with everything from juicy vegetables to vegan scampi and charcuterie. Before that, the dough, which is made with authentic Italian quality ingredients, has been left to ferment for a full 72 hours.

At Pom Friterie, French fries don't just play a bit part, they're the main character. Inspired by Dutch street food, they serve fresh, organic, hand-cut French fries with sauces and sides from all over the world. Choose from the menu's vegan options, or compose your own meal with plant-based sides such as falafel, pickles and dip. 

"Jetto Street Food" is what the owners call the food at MamaWolf. Come here for a warming soup with chewy udon noodles, Japanese street food such as onigiri (rice balls) and other snacks. The menu also includes a selection of cocktails and sake.

One of the guys from Swedish House Mafia, Sebastian Ingrosso, is one of the owners of Kale & Crave. Their aim is to offer fast, simple food in the form of various kale-based dishes, without compromising on flavour or quality, and there are always vegan options. 

Finding entirely plant-based Chinese food is not always easy, but at Siberiens Sinokök, vegans and vegetarians can choose from several different dishes. The place may be small and sparsely decorated, but the food is high quality - the chefs even make their own noodles by hand. Expect authentic flavours and a friendly atmosphere.

Verte in the Old Town serves creative and innovative vegan dishes, with a zero-waste philosophy. Culinary inspiration comes from near and far, so you can tuck into everything from Swedish classics to dishes with influences from Poland, Hawaii and Italy. As well as to the à la carte menu, there's also a vegan buffet, and the drinks menu includes a wide range of craft beers, organic wines and traditional drinks.

Everything revolves around sustainability at Urban Deli, creating a delightful hangout with a wide selection of food and drinks. They're no strangers to vegetarian and vegan cuisine, always listing a few alternatives on the menu and able to adjust dishes as needed. The deli and restaurant at Torsplan in Hagastaden welcomes guests for breakfast, lunch, snacks, post-work drinks, and dinner.

Homemade food from the Middle East, natural wine and an inviting atmosphere are the name of the game at Ta'ameya. Quality falafel made with fava beans and served with warm pita bread from the Neapolitan pizza oven. The menu is naturally plant-based and lists both falafel in bread and as a salad, as well as hummus with side dishes.

What could be more comforting than really creamy chickpea mash served with warm, fluffy bread? The concept at Reggev Hummus is as simple as it is delicious: homemade hummus with, among other things, tahini, olive oil, vegan chorizo ​​and various stews. Almost everything on the menu is vegan-friendly, and you can eat in take away.

Tropical chain Hawaii Poké was was of the first to bring poké bowls to Stockholm, and they now have branches all over the city. Order healthy poké bowls with a choice of protein to suit all tastes, including vegan options. Furthermore, everything on the menu is gluten-free, lactose-free, and nut-free.

Falafelbaren opened in the summer of 2013 and since then they're been feeding hungry Stockholmers homemade felafel. There are often queues around lunch time, with just a few places to sit inside and outside, but you can always take away. Their felafels are served with fermented red cabbage, pickles, tomato, cucumber and tahini sauce and you can also order them as a salad.

Vegans who aren't afraid of lots of options should head to Bastard Burgers. Almost the entire menu is available in vegan format, from burgers and nuggets to fries topped with vegan cheese sauce and maxed-out milkshakes.

Falloumi in Södermalm serves top-notch falafel with exciting accompaniments such as mango hummus, harissa tahini and their own falloumi sauce. The selection is mainly vegan, and as well as classics such as falafel in wraps and bowls, there's also a new plant-based dish on the menu every week. You can also come here to satisfy your craving for vegan kebabs - at Falloumi, vegan kebabs are served both in wraps and on the plate.

At Farang on Tulegatan, Southeast Asia is never far away – at least not food-wise. The elegant restaurant takes you on a luxurious gastronomic journey consisting of creative dishes with influences from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. You can compose your own menu based on the à la carte options, but it's perhaps best known for its tasting menu. The menu is available vegetarian and can be made completely vegan if desired.

Trendy Växthuset serves a completely plant-based five or seven-course tasting menu. Their aim is to be as kind to nature as possible and this is reflected in the menu, which follows the seasons, sometimes from day to day, depending on which ingredients are available. 

You'll find Stockholm's largest vegan store on Åsögatan. The entire range is vegan and largely organic and environmentally friendly. Fill the pantry and fridge with everything from vegan dairy products and meat substitutes to sweets and snacks, and while you're there, why not have a quick coffee in the shop's café.
