Guide to Stockholm's outdoor swimming pools

As the sun beats down and the mercury rises so too the need to cool off with a refreshing dip. Stockholm isn't exactly short on swimming spots but if you're not keen on swimming in the waters of the Baltic Sea or Lake Mälaren there are plenty of great outdoor swimming pools in the city. As well as luxurious hotel spas with outdoor pools there are also other kinds of public pools perfect for both older and younger swimmers. We guide you to outdoor pools in and around Stockholm.

Djurönäset's spa boasts an infinity pool with panoramic views over the Stockholm archipelago. The infinity pool is heated, making it a peaceful place to relax all year round. There's also a 25 metre indoor pool.

Eriksdalsbadet

Central pool destination

Eriksdalsbadet is one of Stockholm's most popular outdoor swimming pools. There are four pools, of which the largest, which is 50 metres long, is reserved for lane-swimming and play. There's also a smaller pool, a teaching pool and a paddling pool for small children. A sauna, sun terrace, refreshments and beach volleyball can all be found on-site, as well as lifeguards keeping an eye on swimmers.

Hägerstens bassängbad

Summer oasis

Hägerstens baths is a popular swimming spot south of Stockholm. There's a 25 metre pool, ideal for both swimming and splashing about. There's also a paddling pool where small children can play, and a climbing wall for anyone tired of swimming. The pools are surrounded by large open grassy areas where you can spread out a rug for a picnic or some sunbathing.

Kampementsbadet

Cool off in Gärdet

Kampementsbadet, on the edges of the Ladugårdsgärdet parkland, is open each summer from May to September. The 25-metre outdoor pool is perfect for lane-swimming and water play. There's also a paddling pool, changing rooms and toilets.

The Winery Hotel

Inspired by Tuscany

The Winery Hotel is a wine hotel in Solna, filled with Tuscan influences. The hotel's roof has a large terrace complete with rooftop pool, where you can swim with fantastic views over Brunnsviken and Hagaparken. The pool is open all year round and is heated to 30 degrees during the colder months. The roof terrace and pool are only open to hotel guests for the time being. The bar is open during the summer months, for as long as the weather holds.

Häringe Slott

Sweden's first outdoor pool

This luxurious hotel in a 17th century castle is also home to Sweden's first outdoor pool, built in the Thirties. The pool is filled in May and isn't emptied until October and it maintains roughly the same temperature as the sea throughout the season. Relax in the waterfront sauna, play a game of tennis or visit the restaurant. The pool is only for the use of hotel guests.

Right at the top of the Clarion Hotel Sign is the Selma City Spa, a chic spa with a relaxing atmosphere and beautiful views over the city's rooftops. The outdoor pool is heated all year round so you can take the plunge whenever the mood takes you. A towelling robe, towels and slippers are included and hotel guests swim for a reduced price.

Yasuragi

Japanese bathhouse tradition

This Japanese-inspired spa just outside the city in Saltsjö-Boo is a wonderful place for relaxation and wellbeing. As well as the extensive bathhouse and spa facilities, there's also a hotel, restaurant and conference facilities. Yasuragi closely follows Japanese bathhouse traditions, including ablution rituals and hot and cold springs. There's also a cocktail bar and a sake bar.

Skepparholmen Nacka

In natural surroundings

Skepparholmen Nacka Spa is beautifully situated out on a promontary in the archipelago. The spa is strongly influenced by typical Nordic nature and they've created a tranquil oasis that includes everything from an outdoor pool and sauna with sea views to a large indoor pool with spa area. Come for the day or check in for the night.

The Nest

Urban wellness area

Right at the top of the Downtown Camper hotel on Brunkebergstorg you'll find The Nest, a modern wellness area with spectacular views over the rooftops, Old Town and Riddarfjärden. You can come here all year round for a dip in the heated rooftop pool and, in the summer, to hang out poolside. Buy a DIY spa treatment and sip a cocktail or mocktail from the adjoining bar.

Hotell Havsbaden spa complex is in Grisslehamn, north of Norrtälje. There are two outdoor pools, of which one is open all year round with a constant temperature of 38 degrees. The facility also includes a steam sauna, aroma sauna and light-therapy sauna to relax in, a spa bar and several treatment rooms.

Nynäs Havsbad

Escape the big city

Jump on the commuter train from Stockholm and head south to Nynäshamn. You'll find Nynäs Havsbad right by the sea, offering a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of the big city. There's a warm pool out on the jetty along with a steam, wood-fired and low-temperature saunas, all with beautiful views out over the horizen. If you prefer a dip in the big blue just follow the ladder down into the sea.
