The best glamping spots around Stockholm

Leave your everyday life and the big city behind you and head for Bullandö Marina, where you can book glamping in beautiful archipelago surroundings with Igloo Escape. Their igloos have all-round panoramic windows, meaning you can enjoy both sunsets and sunrises. For dinner you can grill on your terrace, or head for the marina restaurant. There's also a sauna nearby and if you're feeling adventurous you can rent tandem kayaks. 

Six canvas tents (one of which is larger, perfect for families), complete with wood-burning stoves, sit on platforms looking out over the outer archipelago. In the evening you collect a cool bag full of ingredients which you can use to cook your own dinner on a Muurikka grill. The next morning a breakfast buffet is served in the old gasworks building, which you can enjoy in the charming loft or outside surrounded by nature. 

Take the ferry out to Svartsö, a 2 hr boat ride from Nybrokajen and, after a five-course dinner at Svartsö Krog, you can bed down in one of five sea-facing canvas tents. Each tent has room for up to four people and is cosily equipped with thick duvets, heaters, rugs and atmospheric lanterns. Wake up to a breakfast basket left outside your tent.

Travel out to the beautiful island of Utö for a cosy overnight stay in Aktiv Skärgårds luxurious seaside glamping tents. As well as beds made up with hotel-grade linen, soft towels and drinking water, breakfast is also included in the price - walk up to Utö Värdshus for the breakfast buffet. Combine your stay with some kayaking or a dip in a wood-fired hot tub. 

As well as eleven hotel rooms, this charming hideaway outside Trosa has three glamping tents open in the summer months. The tents have outdoor wooden decks overlooking Lake Sillen. The price includes a pre-dinner drink, three-course dinner and breakfast buffet, along with access to the hot tub and floating sauna.

Eight specially-designed tents on a private island outside Vaxholm provide an exclusive archipelago experience perfect for small groups and corporate events. Gourmet meals are served in a separate dining tent, safari-style, and there's a hot tub and floating sauna guests can use. Activities including sailing, seal safaris and helicopter tours can also be arranged.

Sälstationen, "the seal station", on the island of Gålö in the archipelago has a fascinating history and beautiful natural surroundings. In addition to the cabin accommodation options, there's a comfortable 20 square metre glamping tent. The private wooden deck in front of the tent has views over the seal enclosures and the waters of Långgarnsfjärden. The tent has two beds and space for two extra beds. Enjoy the baskets full of vegetarian goodies for breakfast and dinner (which you cook yourself on a Muurikka griddle pan), and spend your days cycling or stand-up paddleboarding around the island.

Gyllene Brunnen, near Enköping an hour outside Stockholm, is a wedding venue and glamping spot in the heart of the countryside. The farm has five comfy canvas tents set up in a meadow, with two beds in each tent and shared bathroom facilities in a separate building. Play boules, beach volleyball or barbecue, or enjoy the hot tub with views over the fields and sunset. 

Idöborg's tent-like glamping cabins have magnificent views of the sea and the sunset, and the beach just a few metres away. The privately owned archipelago island is located only an hour's boat ride from central Stockholm, and as well as accommodation, it offers a summer restaurant, relaxation in a wood-burning sauna and activities such as kayaking. The glamping cabins are set up from May to October, and the stay includes a three-course dinner, breakfast buffet and sauna.

Spend the night in a tent on a floating jetty on an island in the Roslagen archipelago, just an hour north of Stockholm. There are four "floating tents" and one on land, all equipped with queen-size beds and heaters for chilly nights. After a dip in the sea or an explore in the canoe, head up to the hotel's restaurant for a three-course dinner; breakfast is served in a basket to your tent in the morning.

Leave the city behind and go completely off grid on Myssjö, an island in Lake Yngern only accessible by raft or boat. Spend the night in the lake-view family-size safari tent with space for four (plus a dog!), or try out one of their hammock tents, suspended among the treetops. At Havrevreten's Glamping, you can sleep in canvas tents with a private jetty and views of the lake, or check in at the hammock hotel, where you sleep in a forested hill under the open starry sky. Your overnight stay can be combined with outdoor activities such as rowing, hiking, and herb walks.
