Review of Bistro Mirabelle – by Anna G.

Delicious food where the ingredients are given the main role. Simple combinations with amazing taste. We came late on a Friday of “salary weekend” and two out of the three main dishes were sold out. So we took 3 starters and the only available main to share. The starters were simple French staples: pâté de campagne, hard boiled eggs with endives and anchoïade (rather a good tasting mayonnaise with some anchovy after taste than actual anchoïade the way I think of it) and a jambon de Paris cut in thin slices with celeriac remoulade. The main came already split in two portions (really appreciated!) and was surprisingly tasty. What must have been a large winter courgette was chopped in large cubes and cooked to melting tenderness with butter (most likely lots of butter and perhaps some stock?) and served with a no-frills well-seasoned aioli and a perfectly cooked piece of white fish (haddock I think). Something so anodine at first glance just came alive in combination. Delicious. This haddock did not leave the sea in vain.

The service is also extremely friendly. I have long hesitated between 4 and 5 stars. The food is not really that instagram friendly and isn’t that complex - there isn’t really that much you would be able to make at home, provided you did have that magical palate! But then, if you don’t want to cook because you want to relax instead and you want a place where they will propose a really well-curated wine list that you won’t find at Systembolaget, this the kvarterkrog you wish you were living right next to. But if you’re looking for another type of wow factor, decor, well designed plating, out of the ordinary cooking techniques,… then you should probably go somewhere else. So with that caveat, 5 stars it is for me!
