The best lunch restaurants in Östermalm

The elegant neighbourhood restaurant Aristo aims to be a place to meet up from morning till night, whether it's a formal business lunch you're after or a relaxed lunch with a friend. There are several different options to choose from at lunchtime: the dish of the day with meat or fish, as well as a weekly vegetarian, salad, soup and omelette.

Paraden is housed in an former 1930s cinema and it's a now delightful place to hang out from morning to night. The restaurant offers plenty of seating for solo guests as well as larger groups, in the bar, dining room or on the balcony.

Napolyon has been a popular neighbourhood restaurant since 2012 and they serve international dishes at lunchtime. In addition to a lunch special, they serve veal schnitzel and minute steak, as well as a vegetarian/vegan dish of the week.

Goma boasts the title "Sweden's first Asian gastropub", and experiments freely with flavours from different corners of Asia, combining them with dishes from around the world. In swanky surroundings on Humlegården, they serve a variety of exciting salads, baguettes, signature dishes and a daily lunch special. Expect a taste explosion of sweet, salt and acid that you've probably never encountered before.

Fancy eating your lunch with a sea view on a summery al fresco dining area? Glashuset's brasserie looks out over the entrance to Stockholm harbour and provides a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. The wide menu offers international cuisine, with meat, fish and veggie options.

At the far end of Östermalm's Saluhall, Lisa Elmqvist serves the very best produce the sea has to offer. Black Milk Gastro Bar is Niclas Jönsson's and Daniel Höglund's lunch concept in Östermalm, focusing on 'Southern European slow food in a modern way'. They're not about concepts and trends; instead, the raw ingredients take centre stage here. The menu changes almost daily, with a range of dishes all cooked with love and craftsmanship.

Its relaxed yet lively atmosphere have ensured Aubergine has remained a popular neighbourhood restaurant with people who live and work in the area since the 90s. They serve European dishes all day, including at lunchtime. The menu includes a daily lunch special and à la carte options, as well as a list of selected wines by the glass. If you're in a hurry you can also ring and order takeaway. 

As the name - which means “craftsmanship” - suggests, this Östermalm restaurant values true craftsmanship, both in the kitchen and in terms of interior design. The flavour combinations and presentation are extremely skilled, and form the basis of a weekly-changing lunch menu with both small and large dishes and desserts. Hantverket is run by well-respected chef Stefan Ekengren, known for his culinary creativity and love of traditional Swedish home cooking.

Inspired by Italy's numerous gastronomic hotspots, the team at Zink have created their own version of a trattoria in the heart of Östermalm. They serve lunch in the form of a daily fish, meat and pasta dish, as well as a selection of regular dishes. If you want to go all-in, pick and choose your own meal according to the classic Italian format: antipasti, primi, secondi and dolci. 

Spend your lunch hour in a lively back alley in Madrid - Spanjorskan (sister restaurant to Nybrogatan 38, a few footsteps away) serves up Mediterranean vibes in the form of a Spanish “tray lunch” served in buffet format. Exactly which dishes you'll pick and choose from depends on the season, but most will have been cooked on the grill or rotisserie. 

Enjoy the Danish delicacy smörrebröd, or open sandwiches, served with a selection of different toppings at Nybroe Smørrebrød inside Östermalms Saluhall. Take a seat inside the historic indoor market or take your lunch back home or to the office.

Inside A House creative co-working space, a gang of well-reputed restaurateurs from Café Nizza, Babette, Schmaltz and Totemo Ramen have created their own ramen oasis named Tengu. The pared-back dining room has views of the kitchen where the chefs prepare the food, and with several different dishes on the menu, you can have lunch here regularly without getting bored.

The charming bistro in the Hotel Kung Carl on Stureplan serves European dishes at lunch and dinner. The menu is updated every week and has something to suit all tastes. The decor is inspired by 19th century France and its decadent style.

The popular Stureplan restaurant East was one of the first places to serve Asian fusion food in Stockholm, and the lunch menu is packed with influences from the east. Choose from a daily lunch special and a couple of dishes that change weekly, with always at least one vegetarian option.

Kasten serves up creative versions of classic French dishes at lunchtime in the form of starters, main courses and desserts. The menu varies according to what ingredients are available in season, as well as what the head chef feels inspired to cook, but there are always several vegetarian, meat and fish options to choose from in the rustic surroundings - perhaps accompanied by a glass of wine from Vinstockens, Kasten's own wine bar. 

Since Kapibara opened their doors on Östermalmstorg, Tokyo is never far away.  They make their own noodles at this small ramen joint, which are then served in a bowl of slowly-simmered organic broth with both authentic and more unusual creative toppings. If someone in your group would rather have something other than noodle soup, there are a couple of different dishes available.

Cassi may be a French restaurant, but at lunchtime they broaden their horizons with popular dishes from near and far. At least two different dishes and one or more vegetarian options are served daily. Fish stew, pyttipanna beef and potato hash, chili con carne or raggmunkar potato pancakes - there really is something here to suit all tastes. If you're having a celebratory lunch, why not combine it with a glass of wine, from selected French producers.

The menu oozes Mediterranean flavours, with an emphasis on Italian cuisine. If you're in the mood for pizza you can try a tarte flambée, which is a thinner, French variation on classic pizza and comes with various toppings.

During the summer months Hallwylska serves fresh, summery flavours in the Continental surroundings of their magnificent inner courtyard. A touch of luxury on a budget at Elverket. Lunch here is extremely popular among those who work in the area and the food suits all tastebuds (and wallets). There are fish and meat options, as well as vegetarian, vegan dishes, pasta, meatballs and Caesar salad.

This family business has been supplying Östermalm residents with quality hot dogs since 1992, and there's often a lunchtime queue even today the outside Nybrogatan 57. Choose from a variety of sausages, homemade sides and sauces, all served in French bread. A Stockholm classic that's never a bad idea.

With short waiting times, wallet-friendly prices and tasty flavours, Eatnam is a real lunchtime favourite with many Stockholmers. The lunch menu at this Vietnamese restaurant is updated daily with two new dishes, one of which is vegetarian. Pick up takeaway, take a seat in the restaurant, or eat on the sunny outdoor terrace with a view of Stureplan during the warmer months.

Meno Male can be found at several addresses around Stockholm, including Sibyllegatan, where Östermalm's pizza aficionados go for Neapolitan-style lunch - at reasonable prices. The pizzas are traditionally made with tipo-00 flour and baked in a wood-fired oven made in Naples itself. In addition to several varieties of the Italian delicacy, they also serve a pasta dish of the day.

If you're craving a poké bowl, head over to Hawaii Poké. They were among the first to jump on the trend in Stockholm and today you'll find their branches all over town. Choose from bowls with your choice of protein, and the menu also includes smoothies and other fresh items.

Burger & Pastrami, affectionately known as BAP, serves up exactly what you'd expect from the name: burgers and pastrami. Just like at a classic deli in New York, you can choose from various different combinations of meat, sides and bread, accompanied by fries or salad. Meat comes from a local producer and burgers can be ordered as single, doubles and triples. 

Kale & Crave is a trendy lunch spot, particularly among Östermalm's office workers, as the focus here is on healthy fast food with kale as the common denominator. In addition to a couple of main dishes, there are several nutrient-packed salads to choose between, with your choice of protein. Eat on site or take away.

As well as gorgeous creations from their bakery, Fosch Artisan Pâtisserie also serves breakfast and cooked food during the day. The lunch menu consists of salads, grilled sandwiches, quiches and soups, which change daily and are written up on the chalkboard. If you fancy treating yourself, order a glass of wine to go with your lunch and a French pastry to round it off. .
