The racket sport padel, which can be described as a hybrid of tennis and squash, has taken Stockholm and Sweden by storm and become extremely popular in a very short time. Perhaps because it's a relatively simple and enjoyable sport which can be enjoyed without any prior knowledge or experience. There are now plenty of padel halls, outdoor padel courts and large facilties in Stockholm welcoming everyone to try out the sport. Most courts can be booked in advance, but some have drop-in spots and some courts are free. The pandemic forced the huge Stockholmsmässan exhibition centre to readjust their focus and they now offer 22 bookable padel courts - a total of 396 bookable hours per 24 hr period. There's a shop at the entrance where you can hire padel rackets if you don't have your own.

A full padel experience
Padel Zenter in Årsta, which was founded by pro footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović, has nine padel courts all created by the same suppliers of courts as the World Padel Tour. They're open every day, providing both racket and towel hire. You can also refuel with simple snacks.

Dependable facility
Fifteen minutes walk from Älvsjö train station, Padel United has six padel courts, with eight metre-high ceilings and surfaces with a "gravel tennis feel". There's also a gym, a shop and a function room suitable for corporate or other events.

Outdoor padel
Play by the water
Take the ferry from Nybroplan and hop off 20 minutes earlier in Nacka Strand, where there are three outdoor padel courts next to the water. The courts can be booked online and are a perfect place to hang out on warm summer evenings. During the summer months their shop is open if you need to buy equipment.

Free outdoor courts
Play padel for free on the open-air padel courts in Vinterviken. You can't book the courts, so make sure you come in good time so you can get in line for a match. While you wait for your turn you can take a walk in the beautiful surroundings, or visit Vintervikens Trädgårdskafé.

Padel in tropical surroundings
At Sthlm Beach Club you can play padel in tropical surroundings with wooden decks, palm trees, sand and sunlight all year round.
