Edit 2021: A modern classic. I've been here quite a few times now and really think they've succeeded. Since my initial review in 2016, they have also raised the level of the food a notch. The snails are the best in town together with Daphnes and the entrecote top class. I also like the lunches here. Sniffing at full pot, maybe raising in the future.

2016: Balzac is a large lovely brasserie with a high noise level and beautiful premises. Spotless service and decent prices. So far top class. In terms of food, I tried a little bit of everything possible on the menu and in terms of food, it is good but perhaps not quite in line with the rest of the investment. Ate oysters, ankrillette, croquettes, eggs with morels, salmon tartare and entrecote with fries and Balzac butter. Everything was good, except for the butter for the meat which I wasn't very fond of. So in summary, a lovely place with good but not fantastic food.
