Where to celebrate the National Day of Sweden in Stockholm

At Skansen, Sweden's National Day is celebrated from morning until evening with various activities for young and old. There will be a flag workshop, old-fashioned games and folk dance demonstrations and much more. The day ends with the traditional National Day concert on the Solliden stage attended by the Swedish royal family, which is broadcast on SVT Play. 

Kungliga Operan, Solna stad and the Royal Court invite you to a music festival in the early summer greenery of Hagaparken. Below Koppartälten, dancers from the Royal Ballet will perform a part of Romeo and Juliet, and the soloists, choir and Royal Court Orchestra of the Royal Opera will play summer music. There will also be singalongs and the national anthem to conclude the event.

This year's programme in Rålambshovsparken includes several activities for children and young people. There will be face painting, balloons and performances by Kulturskolan, as well as the opportunity to try out everything from skateboarding and basketball to an obstacle course. Candy floss, ice cream and hot dogs will be on sale. 

National Day means race day at Gärdet. Fast horses and brave jockeys compete for first place and festivities include a hat parade, food and drinks, and activities for children. After the last race there'll be a live performance from Sven-Ingvars.

Hågelbyparken in Tumba will be celebrating with family-friendly fun and activities. There will be entertainment on the stage and Botkyrka municipality will be welcoming new Swedish citizens. Have something to eat and drink while you're there at Café Anna Giertz, say hello to the animals in the petting zoo, play kubb, walk on stilts and much more.

Raise a toast with a glass of beer on this special day at Nya Carnegiebryggeriet. They open at 2pm and welcome guests to the pleasant outdoor seating, hopefully bathed in sunshine on this holiday.

For those who want to celebrate Sweden's National Day in a summery club environment, Trädgården is an obvious choice. The Södermalm club is hosting the Tequila Club Festival, which means a full day and evening filled with Mexican drinks, music, a lively atmosphere, and (hopefully) sunshine. The event is in collaboration with Tequila Club, Stockholm's most secretive pop-club.

Ersta Terrass is kicking off the summer season with a festive national day celebration, framed by the stunning views over Stockholm's inlet, the Old Town, and Djurgården. During the evening, the terrace will transform into a vibrant pop-up with food and music, with the team from Santa Salsa serving crispy arepas and various DJs spinning records. They will also be inaugurating the new bar.

Idyllic Herrängens Gård invites you to a National Day celebration in a rural atmosphere. Among other things, there will be refreshments, ice cream, and food to suit both younger and older taste buds, and an outdoor bar will also be set up. Furthermore, Fromageriet will stop by with a cheese truck full of delicacies. For the little ones, there will be fun activities such as a lucky dip, face painting, and balloon sales, and in the garden, Södra Latin's brass sextet will provide musical entertainment.

6th June is not only Sweden's birthday, it's also the birthday of this Södermalm restaurant. To celebrate their ten years in business, they're hosting a day party with a flea market, food, music, and drinks.

If you're looking for a national day celebration with a bit less tradition and a lot more party, head to Mosebacketerrassen. They'll be throwing a summer party with food, great company, and a DJ – all set against the beautiful backdrop of Stockholm. During the day, refreshing drinks and food such as bowls, salads, pizza, and burgers will be served, and later in the evening, the party moves indoors to the nightclub. Guests of all ages are welcome during the day; from 10pm, the minimum age is 23 (21 for guest list).

Stockholm City celebrates the National Day by inviting everyone to the event A Day at Slussen. During the day, they'll be opening the new Södermalmstorg and Mälartrappan, which connects the square to the quay. This will be celebrated in a festive manner with music, games, food, and an opportunity to learn more about everything related to Slussen.

On the evening of the national day, Vår Gård together with Saltsjöbaden Jazz Club invites you to a musical pre-summer evening. In a beautiful archipelago setting in Nacka, there will be swinging tunes performed by some of the country's most prominent jazz musicians. Next door to the venue, there's a bar serving drinks and snacks, and if you want to have a full evening out, you can have dinner in the restaurant before the concert starts.

Sweden's National Day has been celebrated at Golfängarna in Sundbyberg since 2005, and this year is no exception. To mark the day, an event area is being set up featuring a mix of local businesses, clubs, food vendors, and a large stage with entertainment. The programme includes everything from a funfair to stage performances and a ceremony to welcome new Swedish citizens. The event is organised by Sundbyberg City council.

Villa Källhagen will be celebrating the 6th of June with a specially composed menu that celebrates Swedish flavours and the best ingredients of early summer. They'll be serving toast Skagen, along with cured salmon with dill-stewed potatoes and Villa Källhagen's own vanilla ice cream with strawberries. If you want to extend the celebration, you can combine the meal with an overnight stay at the hotel.

The Royal Armoury invites you to a day of family tours in the vaults of Stockholm Palace. Riddarklubben, the Knights Club, will also be conducting the largest mass dubbing ceremony of young knights since the signing of the Kalmar Union.

At the popular Spritmuseum on Djurgården, the National Day is celebrated with a theme "Modern Swedish Flavours" theme, which invites you on a journey through the new and exciting world of Swedish drinks. Together with Spritmuseum's drinks expert Nadja Karlsson, participants will taste contemporary Sweden and explore the creative, unique, and innovative aspects found on our current drinks scene. Don't be surprised if there are also a few drinking songs.

Långholmens Wärdshus' National Day celebration takes the form of a summery barbecue evening, where the tables are filled with everything from fresh salads to grilled meat, various sides, and vegetarian options. Cold drinks are available to go with your meal. If the weather permits, the buffet is best enjoyed on the lush outdoor terrace.
