Where to celebrate the National Day of Sweden in Stockholm

Sweden's National Day is celebrated on June 6th each year, with food, music and entertainment. There are several spots in and around Stockholm where you can join in the patriotic party, including parties in the park, musical performances by major artists and traditional dancing and flag-waving at Skansen. Sweden's National Day celebrations in Stockholm

Skansen

At Skansen, Sweden's National Day is celebrated from morning until evening with various activities for young and old. There will be a flag workshop, old-fashioned games and folk dance demonstrations and much more. The day ends with the traditional National Day concert on the Solliden stage, which is broadcast on SVT Play. 

  • Where: Skansen, Djurgården
  • Time: 10am - 6.30pm, followed by the concert

Hagaparken

Kungliga Operan, Solna stad and the Royal Court invite you to a music festival in the early summer greenery of Hagaparken. Below Koppartälten, 50 dancers from the Royal Ballet will perform a part of Alexander Ekman's classic 'Midsummer Night's Dream', and the soloists, choir and Royal Court Orchestra of the Royal Opera will pay tribute to Alice Babs on her 100th birthday with well-known opera pieces. There will also be singalongs and the national anthem to conclude the event.

  • Time: Activities between 11 am and 4 pm, stage programme at 2 pm

Rålambshovsparken

This year's programme in Rålambshovsparken includes several activities for children and young people. There will be face painting, balloons and performances by Kulturskolan, as well as the opportunity to try out everything from skateboarding and basketball to an obstacle course. Candy floss, ice cream and hot dogs will be on sale.

National Day races

National Day means race day at Gärdet. Fast horses and brave jockeys compete for first place and festivities include a hat parade, food and drinks, and activities for children.

Hågelbyparken

Hågelbyparken in Tumba will be celebrating with family-friendly fun and activities. There will be entertainment on the stage and Botkyrka municipality will be welcoming new Swedish citizens. Have something to eat and drink while you're there at Café Anna Giertz, say hello to the animals in the petting zoo, play kubb, walk on stilts and much more.

Trädgården

If you want to celebrate Sweden's National Day with live music in club surroundings, Trädgården is a safe bet. The Södermalm club kickstarts the celebrations with Cyme Fest, a festival that aims to create space for female acts who test the boundaries of artistic expression. A wide range of artists will be performing, including Uncle Waffles , Stella Explorer and Naomi Sharo

Bleck

6th June is not only Sweden's birthday, but also the birthday of this Södermalm restaurant. To celebrate their 9 years in business, they're hosting a day party with a flea market, food, music, and drinks.

Slussen

Stockholm will get a new meeting place when the area around the canals between the Old Town and Södermalm opens to the public. The new spot is called Vattentorget and it will open with fun and activities including music, games, food, conversations, and the opportunity to learn more about everything related to Slussen.

Akkurat beer bar is celebrating National Day and the reopening of the nearby Vattentorget in Slussen by inviting Stefan Missios to play live music for guests in the evening. He takes the stage at 7 pm. There will also be food and beer as usual.

Saša

The nostalgic Tiktok phenomenon Fjortisper is making a guest appearance at Saša Vinbar – if he manages to find his way there from Södermalm, that is. There'll be a dance floor, sausages, and beer service, along with wine of course, it is a wine bar after all. The day kicks off with a run around nearby Gärdet, then it's full speed ahead at the wine bar in Frihamnen.

Freyja

Södermalm restaurant Freyja is celebrating the national day with a proper Swedish party. In honour of the occasion, they'll be serving a specially composed three-course menu with Swedish wine by the glass, accompanied by five DJs playing some classic moments from Swedish music history.

Villa Källhagen will be celebrating with great food, entertainment, and festive vibes. The day starts with a special lunch and live music, and continues with an afternoon party on the lawn by the water.

Winterviken

Eric Gadd and the music collective Blacknuss are teaming up for a 'Soulful Summer' evening at Winterviken that will be filled with soul and r&b. Afterwards, there'll be more dancing with an afterparty and DJ. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the café before the concert.

Spritmuseum

At the popular Museum of Spirits on Djurgården, the National Day is celebrated with the theme “How Swedish is Swedish”? with tastings of Swedish 'window wine', punsch and a completely new Swedish gin.  Naturally, the day is also celebrated with a few snaps songs.

Ekermanska Malmgården

To celebrate the 6th of June and honour Swedish songwriter Olle Adolphson on what would have been his 90th birthday, a full day of activities and concerts is being arranged in Södermalm. The day kicks off with a march from Zinkensdamm to Ekermanska Malmgården, where the Railway Orchestra parades to the tunes of the bard's songs, followed by activities, more concerts and a film.
